Graphic EQ tone suck issue

Agreed - mostly. It's the passive only schtick that gets my goat. Pretty much all basses that use built-in pre-amps are using feedback (active) tone controls so why do so many amp makers stick with passive???? 'Tis a puzzlement.

I have never liked graphic eq's. I can't tell you why but as soon as I see an amp with a graphic on it I completely lose interest in it!

if u notice the eq affecting the quality of the signal, thats what they do as well as making changes in the frequency response. unless you get an expensive shelving eq for a studio ect, you will keep noticing it. congrats on your diagnostic ear skills. hey, dont ever try pluggin yer bass in the power amp input, because then u will notice the trash your preamp section of the amp is really adding ! i did it, and was forced to buy an avalon 737sp preamp. once you notice it, your doomed to be bothered by it. (no really please try yer bass in the poweramp input to cut out the preamp ) sometimes pure clarity will let you hear more onstage, rather than frequencies you think you are missing. johnny a staind

I owned that avalon for awhile, really nice. I didn't keep it because there wasn't enough output options. Sounded mint. I will trust my ears. The added eq's do drag my tone down. It's not in my head and not because I don't have a clue how the toys work. It's simply got to be signal degradation.
