Graphtech BlackTusq XL sizing weird

Okay, so before I make myself sound like a total moron (even though I probably am), I read the sizing guide and everything on how to properly measure each part of your nut on the graphtech site. However, I came up with very short measurements (around 10mm off on the E to E as well as .5 off the overall length). Has anyone ever experienced this? Should I just take the dive and buy the nut?

A nut should be over sized as the fitting is via your method of reducing material. The question is not moronic. It is a bit confusing however.

You cannot ADD to material, correct? So that fitting something such as a nut is accomplished through removal of material. Therefore if your sizing indicated too small a size, it would be logical that you have made an error. IF on the other hand the error appears as too large a size, it may be well and good as that may be expected to be removed. However there are limits as to what is appropriate to be removed (you don't want to be lopping big chunks off obviously).

Measure your existing nut. In gross generalities you would want something larger slightly, but within reason. examine the type of cuts used in the example. Often a nut is sampled with "U" cuts. However "V" cuts may be more flexible as far as string sizing is concerned as they can accommodate various sizes easier than a "U" being angled instead of "walled".

Are you getting a nut for a 6 string bass like the one in the link? Their measurment system is really straight forward and works great from my experience. Are you sure youre measuring correctly? Also, you can very easily come up with measurments a lot different then those of that nut as it may simply not fit your bass. Unlike the 4 and 5 string nuts theres not a variety with the 6 string. You could always buy a blank and go from there. Youd have to contact them to see if they offer blanks in black tusq.
