Great Closing Songs for Cover Bands

Forty years here. Lots of things work. There are no fast rules.

No objections there. My sole opinion is that there is no reason to fixate a gig closing song, when you could take the liberty of having more than one in the pool and freshen up things a bit.

We don't do it as a closer but we mash it up with Magnificent 7 theme. We close with "Land of 1000 Dances*".

Do you really do the Mag7 theme? That is my all time favorite price of music. OMG, to hear a band do that would just make my day. Elmer Bernstein ( and Ennio Morricone) are gifts to all of us.

Lately we've been closing with the B-52's Love Shack. Our drummer nails the vocals and we have two female vocalists who nail their parts. Always a fun closer. Sometimes it's Sweet Child of Mine (Sheryl Crow version).

In the Blues/Rock power trio: Creed's "My Sacrifice" with the "Thank you, and goodnight!" over a big crescendo ending.

In my solo act: Usually, Keith Urban's "You'll Think of Me". The ladies love it. If the audience is in a sing-along mood and begging for an encore, Darius Rucker's version of "Wagon Wheel".

Seriously.

I know, it's like playing "Mustang Sally"; but, it kills. The only difference is I like playing "Mustang Sally"; my wife talked me into adding "Wagon Wheel".

Best closer I ever heard (with a band we shared a bill with) was Let the Sunshine In. With the fancy baseline. Tore the house down.

Best I've played is White Freightliner Blues if you have any country-ishness to your act.

mainly because it rips the singers throat out and he can't sing anymore after that one,
and it's a great a$$ kick'n rock'n song too.

we close with Life is a Highway currently. people sing along with us on that one. my previous band always used Won't Get Fooled Again and we put every ounce of energy we had left into it. with the screams it was kind of a voice killer so the singer could just let it rip at the end of the night.

Keith Emerson and the Nice would work the theme from the Magnificent 7 into their version of Bob Dylan's She Belongs To Me. You can hear it here at 2:52 interspersed with much tastefully played Bach bits:
