Great Closing Songs for Cover Bands

Best closer I ever heard (with a band we shared a bill with) was Let the Sunshine In. With the fancy baseline. Tore the house down.

I love playing that song! Every production of Hair that I have played used it (Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In) as an extended curtain call and exit music. I've never thought of playing it as a night closer in my cover bands. Hmm.

I know one soundman that would play Trinity Sessions by the Cowboy Junkies once the band was done. That mellowed out folks and got them good to go.

Many years ago, we used Midnight Special, although only loosely referencing the CCR arrangement. Great beat, great harmony opportunities, easy to sing along, works will for good night solos, and stretches and contracts well.

we close with Life is a Highway currently. people sing along with us on that one. my previous band always used Won't Get Fooled Again and we put every ounce of energy we had left into it. with the screams it was kind of a voice killer so the singer could just let it rip at the end of the night.

Our standard closer is a high energy version of "Shout" by the Isley Brothers. The only thing is it goes over so well we almost always have to do an encore which is usually "Hey Jude" or if we want to get out sooner "I Saw Her Standing There".

having a reunion show with an old band and one of our singers sounds just like neil young and we were going to play The Weight as a closer but our version of "Ohio" is pretty spot on so we are going with that.

This is our most frequent closer. The lyrics are a great fit and at that time of the night fans of The Doors are out in good numbers.

Actually Jim Hughart is playing upright here (when I first heard it in the '70's I thought it was fretless too). Great player! I get to play this in one of my bands, but we don't close with it.
