great finger style players

Ya know, I've gotta admit that the notion of "fingerstyle" is a little abstract to me. I mean, that includes just about everything other than slapping, tapping or picking, right? So that would encompass a boatload of different styles, from old school to modern distorto-insanity.

Still, when I think fingerstyle, Rocco is always the first who comes to mind (especially when paired with David Garibaldi's drumming – talk about a match made in heaven!). Rocco was the first bass player I really listened to and his playing still moves and inspires me.

Paul Jackson, though he often plays so hard and with such a mean tone you'd think he's playing with a pick.
And Pino Palladino of course.

But fingerstyle player is really vague since slappers usualy play a lot of fingerstyle as well. Except for Larry Graham of course. 100% thumbed groovemeister.

Oh, and the guys playing with Joe Zawinul is always a safe bet. His last bass player Etienne M'Bappe was awesome but the current one, Linley Marthe, is totally friggin unbelievable.
It's all about the groove.

Check out those two on the live discs Midnight jam and Vienna nights respectively. You won't be disappointed.
