Hey all-
I am on tour in Chicago right now and I had an accident with my bass that resulted in the D string tuning peg breaking off. On my Juzek the gears are mounted two a piece to one plate as opposed to being individually mounted to the Head Stock. Hence, both sides needed to replaced so that they match and operate properly etc..
I found Mike Sonksen to do the job. He moved his regularly scheduled jobs and saw me first thing this morning. Has replaced the tuners with gorgeous old german hat-peg tuners. the work and craftmanship is superb and he is a great guy to hang with and discuss work with. Great bass player as well which always makes me feel a bit more comfy with a Luthier.
The price was totally reasonable AND he was even nice enough to take pics on his digital camera for me to email to my insurance rep.
I highly recommend this guys work to anyone for any type of double bass job. I played the other basses in is shop and I could that this cat can really set up a bass and really knows what he is doing.
To boot - he turned the whole job around for me in one day which was critical for me to avoid having to rent a bass for my gigs.
Mark Sonksen - he is the man for the Chicago area!
thanks
