Jason Newstedd. Obviously he wasn't as technically proficient as Cliff Burton, but he had far better tone, was much tighter, and brought kickass backup vocals to Metallica - something Cliff didn't. Very underrated player imo.
And yes, David Ellefson is a badass. Listen to the song "Trust". Megadeth's best song, by far. Awesome bass intro.
Also, Mike Starr of Alice in Chains. The bass tone on their first album is, to this day, the best bass tone I have ever heard. Nothing says "grind" like a Spector through Ampeg SVT.
