I finally found some free backing tracks at www.freejamtracks.com just scroll down towards the middle of the page. I've been using these for the past week trying to do some improvising and so far so good.

Almost forgot, use right click and save target as to download the files to your computer. then you can load them on to your mp3 player.
That's not a bad site. My previous instructor told me about it last year and I'll go there periodically. I like that he's got a few different genres in there.
