I'm just a bit age-deficient to have heard these at the time, but certainly old enough to have grown up in the 'afterglow'. I won't make any new suggestions, but I am inspired to make a playlist and rekindle my love of this music that hooked me hard in the '80s. Thanks to @dougjwray for the prompt and to everyone else for the memories.

You can't mention the moody blues in this thread without using their song that was THE Psychedelic Anthem of Anthems. (Other than Legend of A Mind) I'm talking about Ride My See Saw. (wonderful guitar solo too) The Moody Blues were a superband with at least 3 lead singers.

Yeah it was my First bought record, but for Iron Butterfly the song is In The Time Of Our Lives from Ball. Best outro & last 4 bars in rock. They even made a performance video, and you can hear the busy Lee Dorman bass line very well, camera time on his hands too.
