I don't see the point of singling out who the best Precision bass player is or was. James Jamerson was one of the greatest bass players of all time, period. He started on acoustic bass and switched to the Fender Precision because Leo developed it first. If Leo had developed the Jazz bass first, Jamerson would have been just as influential on that. A great bass player is a great bass player regardless of what bass he or she plays. Jamerson was one of the most influential electric bassists ever because no one was doing what he did. He single-handedly changed the way electric bass was played, recorded and mixed because his style and command of the instrument were unprecedented. Chuck Rainey, Freddie Washington, Bob Babbitt, and Stanley Clarke are a few phenomenal bassists who happened to play the Precision bass. They are extraordinary bassists regardless of the model of bass they are playing.

Voted Jamerson, but Pino and Vega both are as much known for their playing on other instruments as P Basses. I was honored to give one of Vegas many J basses a try out one year, and Pino is pretty famous for his Fretless Music Man work. I also would have included Peter Cetera, his work with a P bass on Chicago's first six Albums is epic. I agree on Donald Duck Dunn and think you should also have considered Roger Glover.
