Green Tortoiseshell on a Soviet bass?

Agreed. Let's not forget, this is through the camera mic. I think it probably sounds a lot better line-in or the amp miked.

Sounds a bit like a Rickenbacker, IMHO. Would totally kill with some flats. Put some light Chromes or Monel 77s on there.

I saw a Russian bass for sale a few months back with a green pearl pickguard...craigslist.
They do make some good-looking basses, not as cool as Italian basses, but...
Sounds good to me, certainly the tone could be changed. I bet it would sound great through my Markbass CMD-21P.

Since posting that video yesterday, I did some more poking around. Apparently, they had some guitars and basses with pearloid of all kinds, and they had tortoise-shell on the more 'deluxe' models. The closeup of the pickguard on the guitar in the above video seems to be very different to any pearloid I've seen lately.
