Greg Ridley's Amp?

About 20 years ago a friend of mine gave me an Ampeg SVT 810 bass cabinet that he rescued from a basement in New Jersey. It had been partially submerged in water and was in rough shape. The name Humble Pie was stenciled on the badly torn tolex. I ended up rehabbing the cabinet and still have it and use in a studio. It's refrigerator like size and weight make moving it a real chore. I do not know the cabinet's history or if it was in fact actually Humble Pie's or how it ended up in this New Jersey basement but I figured who would stencil the name of a band other than their own, and if you are trying to create a bogus history, why not stencil The Rolling Stones instead?

If your after Gregs sound you also need to know he used tapewound strings.. much later he used flatwounds.. I was lucky enough to know him and play his bass many times.

Very cool! I'm not surprised to hear this, nor that he used the Acoustic 360/361 rig.

He was a huge influence on me, too. I played the grooves off of Rockin' the Fillmore.

Acoustic 360's ( 2 heads 4 cabs ) I saw them play a few times. Best picture I could find.

Never saw them live.. my loss.. I love vintage Acoustic...thus this post...

Acoustic 361 is correct nomenclature for that rig.

360 is pre-amp only, which plugs into 361pp [ power plus]cabinet, which is a 1x18 folded horn cab with power amp [ 260 watts rms conservative] in botom of speaker cab. You can connect up to (4) 361pp cabs into the the 361 pre-amp.

In those days there was either: little, poor or no bass reinforcement, thus the need. Now they are dinosaurs/ collectibles with an incredible tone.

I have witnessd a single cab 361 turned no more than half volume ..cruise right along with (2) guitar stacks..DIMED.

PS.. Marriot kept a home in Atlanta prior to his demise..a frequent club and jamming visitor in those days. Glenn Hughes lived here in his early D P days, too ..sighs...

I resurrected HP into my playlist yesterday and since then have been thinking ‘man, it’d be so cool to hear from someone who knew him and jammed with him’. So, with that, thank you @steviesilvers.
