Gretsch G5123B serial numbers

Interesting...we have two 48XX numbers in the last few reports. Either they:

- Didn't number sequentially,
- Intentionally left gaps in the numbering, or;
- Made more than we suspected.

It will be interesting to see if we get any reports in the gaps. I personally suspect that they jumped some numerical sequences, perhaps in increments of 50 or 100, or possibly the second shipment of nearly 100 basses was a second run that started with an entirely different serial number.

So far I have logged numbers 10104029 - 10105016 and 10112911 - 10113924

My sources tell me that the Guitar Center distribution warehouse has the entire supply and they dole them out one at a time to the stores as needed.

I've returned one since the purchase:(

ALSO:

The Serial Numbers go like this:

KS(FACTORY)1010(October 2010)4466(4,466th guitar made in the MONTH)

As such, KS10104465 (Blues Bear's 5123-B) and KS10104466 (my first 5123-B) are both 5123-B's, but there is NOTHING saying that KS10104467 isn't a 5120, 51222 etc. So, the serial number RANGE doesn't give an accurate idea of the total number of basses made:(

Also, FYI, the 5123-B acutally is a 5120 Body with a beefy neck, which is why it looks so much like the 5120. Because that's what it is.

This bass, the one we are talking about, Arrived in GC yesterday, 9-13-11. I saw and played it at 7:30 pm. Came home and went to Gretsch...nothing, GC, nothing. Went back this (9-14-11) a.m. and Googled "Gretsch G5123B" after looking in the bass and seeing the model number. Someone had done a great job of documenting the "Mystery Bass".

I took it up to the counter, and NO ONE in the store knew what it was, or where it had come from. Including management.

I bought it.

Now for clarity, mine atleast, the breakdown of the serial number.( based on 1010 being Oct. 2010).

My serial number is [KS1106....] So unless you think my bass was made in November of 2006, we gota reverse the serial number layout. How bout reversing the year and date so I would be 2011/June.

A technicality, but it explains how you could have a KS1011, when Oct. of 2011 is not here yet.

I just bought one this weekend from the Guitar Center in Edina, MN. (drove over from Western WI) I LOVE this bass. Every bit as nice as the Korean Lakland Hollowbody I had a few years back but with a totally different vibe.

These TV Jones Pickups are amazing and I think they really sold me the bass. It sounds much cleaner and fuller than the Eastwood Hollowbody I was very close to getting. I paid more than the Eastwood but for the authentic Gretsch vibe I think it was worth it.
