Grindy tone to push a warm OD?

It sounds a little different than a Blueberry...to me the CM-2 has more grit and punch while the Blueberry is more round and fat. I only sold my CM-2 because I got a B3K.

Keep in mind that this is a Hardwire pedal, which is different from Digitech. I won't touch a Digitech, but I love Hardwire.

For $65 or so, what do you have to lose?

I think I'm gonna grab one of these. You're right, for the price, it seems there is nothing to lose compared to other makers pedals.

I'd say the perfect pedal for what you're asking is the Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B. It pushes any of my drive pedals nicely, as well as giving me a great fat boost when used on it's own.

I agree completely.

The pedal itself is not too "grindy" because that is not what it is for. But man, I keep it on all the time, and when I turn on my Pork Loin or Vintage Microtubes, the PPB really helps get more crunch out of the overdrives.

Does this pedal really do what the reviews says it does? I love tube grit and this thing sounds great. But is it?? I have my doubts and always have about digitech products. I had the bass processor they made a whole back and thought it was trite crap. Can this pedal hold a candle to say something like the MP blueberry?

the CM-2 may or may not be the best OD pedal for you, but it is certainly among the most touch-responsive, by which I mean it responds to your playing dynamics much like a tube amp does. It doesn't cut lows and it is true bypass if you're into that. It can be used as a dirty boost or a heavy overdrive.

That said, it isn't the OD pedal that I choose to use, but that's not based on quality, just on its particular character and tone profile.

anybody looking for an OD pedal owes it to themselves to try the CM-2 before spending more.

I've had the Hardwire for a little while now, and I'd describe it as pretty warm, yet still nice and grindy. It definitely adds to the mids, but it's not honky like a Tubescreamer. My ears tell me that it's blending just a bit of the clean tone in underneath the OD in Classic mode. It's absolutely perfect for when the guitarist takes a solo in a 3-piece band, it fills out the sound wonderfully.

Does the OCD do that grindy type tone? I haven't heard any demos that have shown that...anyone got anything to convince me otherwise?

in my opinon, yes it does the low gain grind thing very well. I don't understand why people are suggesting Rats and other distortion pedals because all you really want is to push the Barbershop to get more of it's distortion in your tone. A clean boost works but I find since a clean boost does not have any charachter or musical EQ curve they don't do a great job of "tickling" you pedals or amp. the OCD has a mild mid boost and a sweet top end, even with gain low it still provides some character which in my opinion is what you need to push the Barbershop in the right frequencies.

I've never heard of someone looking for an overdrive to push an overdrive? Am I just not understanding because no one else has said anything. Hmmm? I use a b3k for the whole job... Kill 2 with one stone-

it's quite common actually especially if you have a pedal that does the overdriven amp sound. What you do is set a pedal to act as your mildly overdriven amp (in this case the Barbershop) and then place another pedal in front to push it a little, or a lot, as needed. This will simulate an amp being pushed even harder.

I will look around for a clip or video of the tone I'm trying to capture. I described it a little in the OP.
I'm looking for something grindy that can push the OD of the Barbershop for a more "advanced" aggressive OD tone.

Think something a bit better than a Boss OBD-3 but not as crazy expensive as the Darkglass B3K. What are my options in there that wont break my budget ($150 tops)?

I want a pedal that has a grindy tone to it that can be behind or on top of my Barbershop to give me it's warmth, but something with a more pronounced high end to give a bit more aggression. It would be a boost of sorts, but I don't think I just want to push the B-shop just to fuzziness. I'm looking for what else I can layer into the sound to give it some more bite. I actually think a OBD-3 is almost there, but I haven't heard of anyone who has been able to tame the shrillness from this pedal even with mods.
