Grindy tone to push a warm OD?

I stumbled onto the marshall guv'nor plus... It can make a lot of grind. But if you use a little bit of gain. You get a excellent tube grind like a old tube amp. Its also got a bass boost. Thats is cool. They can be picked up fairly cheap on ebay

Here is a clip that I really like of a Invalid Link Removed. This is the type of sound I'm going for but with a little bit prettier high end. I'm primarily a finger player so I won't get the kind of bit you hear in this from a pick. But this will give you an idea of what I'm thinking.

I will look around for a clip or video of the tone I'm trying to capture. I described it a little in the OP.

I want a pedal that has a grindy tone to it that can be behind or on top of my Barbershop to give me it's warmth, but something with a more pronounced high end to give a bit more aggression. It would be a boost of sorts, but I don't think I just want to push the B-shop just to fuzziness. I'm looking for what else I can layer into the sound to give it some more bite. I actually think a OBD-3 is almost there, but I haven't heard of anyone who has been able to tame the shrillness from this pedal even with mods.

I can get my ODB3 to do this. But I'm running it through a B7K too. I keep the level to suit the room, the bass almost all the way up, the treble between 11 and noon, the blend at noon and the OD just up enough to start kicking in.

After hearing about the GUV'nor again I need to get that pedal back now. I let a friend borrow mine. I needs to get it back. My whole board has changed now and I can probably put that guy to good use.

Once I actually get the pedals in (both are en route or intended to be), I'm going to try to run a ss/bs Sparkle Motion into the Barbershop. At first I was thinking about running another grittier overdrive *after* the Barbershop, but this thread has me wondering whether or not I can get good results with pushing it from the front end. I just wonder since it is inherently a lower gain pedal (and since I'll be pushing it with a lower gain Rangemaster-ish pedal) does it have that much more to give? I guess I'll see soon enough.

You MUST. MUST. Try a CM-2! I never thought I'd love the sound as much as i do. It can go from mild warmth and growl to a pretty serious OD (into distortion territory really). It also plays VERY nicely with other pedals, I use it before a Pickle Pie B (which is already insanely fuzzy) and the CM-2 really pushes it even farther! They're also quite cheap....

Man, after this thread, I'm GAS'in for the CM2 bad now. Thing sounds sweet. Where have I been?

So I gave this a try at practice this weekend, and my initial sense is that Sparkle Motion into the Barbershop does NOT really accomplish the goal of "pushing" the Barbershop. I may give it a second go at home since I only messed with it on the fly, but it doesn't seem like the SM has enough gain on tap. I'd like to try the ss/bs Mini next.

Let us know your results! I'm interested if the before or after sequence will accomplish what I was thinking.

Ok, here's a question. Please, give opinions. I know, whatever sounds best to me is the right answer, but sometimes hearing others' opinions helps me make an educated decision. I can't decide which way to place my dist/OD pedals. I never stack them but that's because my signal gets way to compressed so I haven't exp too much with thinking that any combo would do the same. Which order would you guys put these pedals in?? Just the dist/OD section of my chain:
