The Aguilar got a nice sound but the footprint (too big) and the stage sound was a problem. I got a bunch of nice comments from audience members and complaints from the band stand. No good. You won't be sorry. Be sure to check your sound from out front or at least standing in front of it while EQing. I find the sound of the Wizzy M standing along next to it is quite different from the sound out front. If in some rooms when standing next to the cab the sound seems a bit muddy w/ too much low end then it's prolly just right out front. I think those side ports throw much of the lows around while the wizzer cone seems more pronounced from the front. This may be part of the secret of the cab's omni-directional Mojo in the room.

Besides being a great sounding versatile cab, it'll be like a vacation hauling that up your stairs :cool: compared to your SWR or even the Aggie.

Yeah. I sold the SWR. I was keeping it around because I was using my GK for DB and I needed something for chop. The AI/EA rig will do that now. I'm still holding on to my GK though. Nothing beats it for portability. I had a trio hit downtown over this past weekend for a wedding. The hall had a piano. Load in is so easy with that thing slung over my shoulder.

One question, have you guys noticed the AI/EA combo to be a little noisy? I didn't notice it until I got up close but there is definitely some high frequency hiss.

Hey Fingers-

Got some of the same stuff in my room here - the latest being the Clarus/MLine 112 combo. Was working with the tone and straight flat doesn't do it(as it does w/the MB200). The secret seems to lie with the notch filters, correct? Even then, with my bass(big Kolstein w/Underwood), I have to push up the bottom and cut the mids. How are you EQing your rig?

I'm going to reserve judgment until I use it on a gig (the first of which is tonight).

I definitely could not run the eq flat as I do on my GK 150MBS. At first I was able to get a decent tone with the mid almost all the way rolled off.

After that I tried using my Fishman Platinum Pro and had a little more control. Also it has a phase switch and a HPF which always comes in handy in loud situations.

Funny though. I had the best luck with my trusty old Sansamp. The AI is very 'unamp' sounding. In situations where I am using a good amount of pickup I want to amp to have a certain character. The Sansamp seems to add just a touch of grit and warmth. Also something about what it does to the signal kills the mids that I need to eq out a little bit anyway.

The proof is in the gig-pudding so I'll report more in the next few days.

I'd still like to hear about the noise thing though. I hooked up my GK to the Wizzy and got a little noise too. I used to use a little pa cab as an extension and noticed some hiss there too. I've never noticed on a gig though. It is only when I put my ear close in the quiet of my apartment.

I don't know what level of noise you are hearing. If the thing is loud as hell and you have to put your ear near it to hear the noise that's ok. If it's at a moderate volume or less than you may have an issue.

I've didn't use any EQ or outboard pre on my bass with the Focus/Wizzy M/Full Circle combo on the gig I played with it. I did my usual engage the notch filter turn the knob all the way down to 30 thing and just turned it up. Sounded great.

The Wizzy M has a higher sensitivity rating than many other speakers plus it has a bump in the mids, which means you are going to more easily hear any background noise and hum from your amp in a quiet environment. Put another way, if one speaker cabinet is 6 dB more sensitive than another, any hum and noise from the amp will be that much louder (and so more audible) with the more sensitive speaker.

The other thing I've noticed about this rig is that it seems very cable sensitive. The Monster cable I've used with the GK now sounds more scoopy and unnatural. A smaller cable I have sounds too thin, but the Planet Waves seems pretty neutral, so I'll go with that next time out. Any cable recommendations?

Basically the kind of mild high frequency hiss that you hear from a PA cab. I hear it even when the mute is engaged. The amp sounds great and I only notice the hiss in a quiet room with my ear close to the cab.

Should be fine. May want to have the AI folks look over the head in some downtime to be sure.

Gig two in the books.

This was the one where the M-Line design really needed to shine. The room is large with two story ceilings. The stage is small and there is a grand piano on the stage. The drummer sets up immediately to my left with both of us pretty much against the wall.

The M-Line passed with flying colors. The M-Line (with the AI) gets really loud. Big room - test passed. Because of the side-ported design the drummer said he could hear me really well and, more importantly, I could hear myself really well. This was maybe a more important test. Awesome.
