GTG - Austin Texas - March 2010!!!!

LOL I had a great time. Ed topped it off. I can't wait to try out my new DR black beauties! I know this was a lakland thing but I didn't play any laklands while I was there 
I was too mind boggled over the 50's mim p and the gibby eb2, damn the gibson was a sweet bass. That "thump button" (as I dubbed it) was the cherry on top.
Semi-mojo... hmmmm. It will be like my bass of doom. Once I'm famous, musicman will be makin a semi-decent copy of this bass for $7k. (It was $700 lol). It's my active, jaco, upright bass. Yeah! And Doude, some day you'll be as amazing as me, lol haha I ain't nothing.
Sidenote: After the clinic did anyone feel embarrassed to say they play bass/want to quite school or job to practice bass all day? LOL I didi

And I would pay a lot. It's also not as dark as it looks in that picture.

Thanks Trevor! I liked how that one came out too. I used it onstage when we opened for Sleepytime Gorilla Museum last year and it sounded great. It was an experiment that worked out pretty well. Mahogany isn't something I usually use often but when I got that board I had to use as much as possible. The neck is from the same piece.

as for the Signature MM fretless go for it....If you don't dream big you never go anywhere!

Tommy, the clinic that did that for me was Adam Nitti. the man's seriously about your size, but he was OWNING a Warrior 6 string!! when i shook his hand i noticed his were so much smaller than mine i almost started crying. i went home and gave a good long look at my basses.
For sure. Jaco's sig is like $3k and my sig would be made by musicman so... that adds another $5k LOL
I'm really not good either. Really if I had been practicing like I should've for the past 4 years, I'd be the man! Record companies would be callin me all over. But of course thats everybody's excuse, "If I practiced like I should've"
It will soon change. I'm getting a steinberger so I'm takin a bass with me every way I go. I am now taking lessons from Mark White (Yes, the Mark White of the spin doctors) and he impresses me so much (it's like seeing the clinic again every time I take a lesson) its inspired me to play a lot more.

Man I got decent sized bass hands for my size but I can barely handle a 6er. I played a Steve Bailey for a review on here, and I utterly sucked at, I was struggling with the neck and the b string the whole time!

funny! I agree - we all can gain alot from playing....congrats on having such a GREAT teacher! I have never really taken any lessons or any music classes....maybe I should look into it....
heck, A, Clayton did not take lessons until after 1-2 albums!
I was never too impressed with the looks or feel of Steinbergers but they are GREAT for traveling!
I was trying to figure out how to build a "foldable" bass to take in suit cases etc....with a USB so you could "play" it through a laptop or desktop while on the road....just have not figured out a way to make it "real enough" etc....maybe some day!

Right teacher improves everything LOL, just the stuff he's shown me in the past 3 lessons I can feel my intonation on fretless is way bett and I'm faster now.

Yea Mark is great. He gives me pointers everytime I'm in the Bass Place @ R&R. Thinking about taking lessons from him during the summer while my son takes drum lessens up there to make good use of time.
Looks like you guys had a real blast. Some fantastic looking basses in evidence here. Fun stuff!
BTW, how far is Austin from Dallas? I always think Dallas would be a great place for a GTG because you could title the thead "TB Does Dallas".

We did indeed, Bill! One of these days, we'll have a video edited and posted of Ed's complete clinic (I say "we", but I'm not actually doing any of the workLooks like you guys had a real blast. Some fantastic looking basses in evidence here. Fun stuff!

).Dallas is a good three hours away from Austin (Texas is so spread out). I've never been, but I don't think I'd like it nearly as much as Austin--despite the thread-title potential.
