GTG - Austin Texas - March 2010!!!!

This is getting more and more tempting. Depending on how much work I manage to get done today and tomorrow, I may drive in for Saturday's festivities. The only bass I'd have available to bring is my Rickenfaker

Just left the GTG and it was a GREAT time!
Unfortunatly I had to leave in the middle of Ed's clinic. (He is amazing)
Met lots of cool cats and it was wonderful!
If you ever make it out to Austin you owe it to yourself to go to Bass Emporium!

Many thanks to Bass Emporium, Ed Friedland for the wonderful clinic, the Lakland crew for their organization and free swag, Tommygunn for PMing me about it in the first place (and nice basses, Tommy!), and to MTMTEX for letting me play his lovely basses (very cool Ovation, and NO THANKS for giving me my first Alembic GAS She and I... I think we had something....), and to all the other folks for showing up and being cool and friendly.

To my fellow Austinites: hit me up if you ever want to get a drink or tell me about a show you'll be playing!

I couldn't make the early part - I was out of town - but I got there a bit after Ed started. I met a couple of you - had fun - wish I could have been there earlier and met the rest of you guys. Maybe next time.

Are you kidding me!? LOL I missed you Andy? haha I bet it was hard trying to figure out who I was for all you guys.

Oh and my dad suggested that we try n do this again this coming summer, without all the outta-towners haha We wouldn't mind coming up for it again. I have to say that EB-2, the squier VM Tele, the 70's tele, and that mim 50's p (in honey blond) are monsters. I'm gassing to get the VM and swap necks with my dirnt!!!

I would like to thank all of you who came out to the GTG last night! it was a real blast! I apologies if I did not get to meet all of you one on one...alot was going on!

Ed Friedland did a FANTASTIC job and started out with his sea foam green 44-07.....he really gave an excellent demonstration of all of the various sounds that can come out of that bass.....He also did some GREAT stuff on a new custom 6 string and a picolo bass...sounded GREAT!

John and Kyle from Bass Emporium were fantastic! If you are ever in the austin area, I would stop by. The trip will be WELL worth it! thanks guys!

DR provided us with some really cool (not yet released) strings designed specifically for drop tuning (DR DDT strings which have a picture of a black widow on the front!). Kyle from BE says that these sound great even if you do not de-tune!

Between the Lakland strings, DR strings, LOG Cds and other Swag from BE everyone walked out with a prize!

After the GTG, Greg and I went out with a local drummer turned bassist to a club called the Saxon Pub. saw a couple of bands before we had to call it a night....

We will have pictures and Ed's video up soon....

I am off to see the Alamo...

He said that, as a joke, cause he realised a few guys were not from Texas. I tried to enter the to soften it up and make it seem funny. Fail lol

Thanks man, he does need to pick his harps again. He was really really good from his old tapes he showed me. I'd love to jam with him but he never gets on the ball.

I wish I could've made it to the afterparty but we had a 3 hour drive back to houston so that was a no-go. It was really cool meeting you guys. And Doude, it was an honor meeting you lol, I did not see a doude wave tho... haha

Thanks Doug and Greg, and everyone for having me. It was a blast to fire up the old chops machine and do my clinic routine again, I so rarely get to do that. Glad you had a good time, and that you had a chance to check out the BE, it's a cool place.

I figured that was you up in the front row, but you disappeared pretty fast after the clinic was done. I turned around and you were outta there.
