Guild Pilot bass club?

Hi, just joined the forum. Good info & folks here!
I just landed a Guild Pilot SB604 Fretless (EMGs, flame maple body & ebony board) and have a question about the dating. I've owned several Guild guitars/basses over the years and am convinced that the serial # chart at guild.com is not always accurate, based on pot codes mostly.
F'rinstance: my "new" Pilot has #BH100346 and the pot codes are (EMG 001 25k) 8626, so 1986. The condition of the bass is close to mint, the wiring is original.
Hey enersha, looks as though our basses are 2 numbers apart!!!! What color is yours?
Not sure how yours can be an '85 unless they made one in between ours and then took a year or 2 off (that darn chart again!)
Maybe the fretless necks were made in the same run and spread out over time on later bodies.
Whatd'ya think?
Love this bass!!!!!!

Whoop's cant read my information! We are 1984!
I stand corrected!
I never claimed to be the "Expert" just really enjoy the basses and try and pass along (although sometimes wrong) information I have found.
Rock on new Guild Pilot Bass Owner! Those numbers are scary close aren't they! I am calling it Vintage White or Cream I don't think its an aged color of White but I love it!

From the "Darn" chart I can't read correctly!
"This chart details the year, model and last serial number produced for each instrument during that period."

I suppose the only "experts" are the ones who made these back in the day.
All I'm saying is maybe our two babies are actually 1986-1987 and that the chart might be off. It really doesn't change the amazing-ness of the Guild experience when they were made, just trying to add more info for folks here on the forum.

10-4 on that for sure they are great basses I'm sticking to 84ish as it is close enough for me.

I love my Guild, traded a SWR head for it here on TB last year and has become my main bass. It's about 9lb and sounds great, especially with the TIs I got on TB as well (IN345 INFELD SUP ALLOY LG 5BS 45-125). Long lasting strings, perfect match for me for this bass.

I'd like to know more info about my bass, serial number is BK100229, thanks!

According to the chart it looks to be a 87 SB 605

Its a beauty!

I saw something mentioned about what the body wood is on the painted Pilots... All painted pilots that were not special ordered were made of Poplar wood, hence the light weight and tone.
I owned the silver Bon Jovi with L.E.D.'s for 7 years, and it was Swamp Ash and it was much heavier than my other Pilots.

Random question, but has anyone on here replaced the neck of their Pilot? The neck on my SB-604 is pretty ratty and I've been considering replacing it as opposed to taking it to a tech. Obviously the best choice would be to use the neck from another pilot, but has anyone tried something like a jazz bass or warmoth neck?

I'd imagine that with a new neck it would seem very un-pilot like and the neck is what I love most about the bass, especially that thick rosewood fretboard. A qualified tech should be able to do a good job without changing the neck too much. Would you be able to do both - have the neck freshened up and also buy a J neck to see how you like it?
