So who is running this club anyway does owning over a dozen Pilots in the past still count? How about some numbers for the crew? Mr. Pilot bass club President and founder I still have some room in my signature and would proudly display the Guild Pilot club membership number!

Cool! But we need to get more people on these Pilots so we can get coffee mugs and tee shirts made and have a Guild Pilot Owners Day here in the fun and sun of Florida some cold winter day for you folks in the north? Just a thought?
Florida sounds good, but it's too common of a destination for most people. How about the desert and mountains of Southern New Mexico?
I dig how lightweight it is. I put some new strings on it today - Warwick Reds (stainless steel) and I played it for a couple of hours. I need to break these strings in and get that pingy bright tone out of them. I dislike new strings, but the ones that came with the bass had some foreign finger gunk in them and I scheve (capisce?).
The neck is super smooth and after playing 5-string for a while, it's nice to fart around with a 4 that's narrow.
Yes, it was worth the wait. Back in the late 80's when I first became aware of them I was lusting over 3 basses but could only afford one - the Pilot, an Alembic Persuader, and a 1974 P Bass. I bought the Alembic, which I have since sold (long, lame story that I will spare you the misery of reading). Should'a picked up the Pilot back then. But hey, I have it now.
The finish on this is making me think I want to refinish my FrankenFretless with a matte finish. It's a nice contrast hanging on the wall between my shiny J and my even shinier Lakland.

I grew up in Colorado and also spent five wonderful years in San Diego, NM is a beautiful place as well, I was thinking Florida because it's where I am and its a forgotten little place no one has really found out about yet so we could get away with more and I did say Winter getaway check out:

I am looking at getting one of these...I may have to sell a different bass to acquire some of these!!
FWIW, they are so worth it. Perhps I am saying this because it's still new to me, but I am digging it more than my '07 MIA J-bass. I really love the narrow neck.

So, what's the relation between Guild Pilots and DeArmond Pilots? I bought a DeArmond Pilot Deluxe when they were discontinued in the early 2000s as my first bass.

They used the name for a series of electric instruments loosely based on classic Guild designs, including the Pilot. The DeArmond stuff fell by the market wayside rather quickly.
I've only played one DeArmond Pilot, and wasn't impressed enough to remember anything about it other than it wasn't a Guild Pilot.

can anybody tell me what year my Guild Pilot 4 string is? the number is BH100408 and why does it start with BH instead of BE? Thanks!
Hello Guild Pilot owner you have a SB-604:
From a very informative PDF file I found
"The SB-604 is the second most popular model. With its active EMGs in the P/J configuration, in most respects, it is identical to the SB-602. But, unlike the 602, it sported a Charvel-like headstock (see below).
For some reason, Guild thought it appropriate to give the 604 the unique serial number prefix BH. According to available information, this model was produced in 1983 and 84; discontinued for two years; then reintroduced and manufactured in 87 and 88."
