I figured someone here should be able to help me with info about my pilot.
I would like to know what year it is. Serial # BE101792
It has 4 knobs instead of 3. Was that an option or the advanced model?

You own a 1986 pilot, it is unique and open to debate whether it is a owner modified SB602 model or a prototype SB902. Is it equipped with EMG pickups? A closeup pic of the controls will help

K, it is a SB602 modified by a previous owner. The placement of the 4 knob from the output jack is clear indication. It has been well loved, often played all signs point to it being a great bass.
I'm sure it will be...I've dug all the pilots I've owned....my 86 is still a daily player...
....not entirely sure, to be honest...I just know in Guild's "dating" chart, there is a section called prototypes and their serial numbers start with LL....
I have seen pics of some weird body styles...and have seen some weird headstocks from them....
i never noticed that... well i guess since i tracked down an advanced 5 i now have a new mission in my pilot life. track down a prototype!!
I unfortunately sold my hot pink w/ pointy headstock Guild Pilot in the late 80's. Seems to be a rare color, never see many in hot pink. I saw the same bass (it was indeed mine) about 5 years ago in a local music store but didn't have the bux and it was sold quick. I should have charged it! Can I still be a member?
I actually got to play the original proto-type pilots. I was in Caruso music in New London, Ct and the then president of Guild came in with two new basses. I played both of them for about an hour. He asked me how they compared to my 78 Fender Jazz and for opinions on how to improve them. We talked for a while and he took a lot of notes. Several months later he called me to say that they were starting production and thanked me for the feedback. He said they used several of my ideas. That was the last time I heard from him. I haven't seen a Guild guitar or bass in a store in years. I be inetrested in playing one again.
I think mine is an SB602 but I'm not sure of the year. the serial is BE100132 and it has active electronics with EMG's, I am the original owner but I don't recall what year I bought it in (kind of a haze back then lol) It has been my baby since I got her, the one bass I'll never part with.
if your bass has a rounded headstock it is a 602, if it has a pointy "80's looking headstock" it is a SB604
Its not as pointy as the ones I've seen on here, it looks like its going to come to a point but then it rounds off at the top. The Guild on the headstock is in gold lettering with a line that looks like the roof of a house under it. (like a flattened up arrow)
