Guild Pilot bass club?

Here is a little update - my new Advanced Pilot arrived at my friend's house yesterday - and with the exceptions of one small bash in the finish and it needing a proper onceover with the cleaning and polishing cloths, he basically describes it as "unplayed" and looking like it's in new condition...YES...!!!

One thing though - the previous owner removed the original control loom and replaced it "something else"...

Can anyone here help me with two things:

1.) Identify the "something else" control loom, and...
2.) Provide me with high res fotos of their own Advanced Pilot control cavity and/or original wiring diagram so that I can return the bass to it's original condition if I so wish...?

Here are a few fotos taken on a wonderful sunny day by my friend (you stalker) after it arrived at his home - great stuff, I love it...!!!

HAHAHAHAHA... :roflmao: Thank you...

The biggest problem with this bass is the color - I have a "standard" SB-602 that looks identical to it - you have to check out the neck at a glance if you're grabbing either one to make sure you're grabbing the correct bass...;)

I think I might like the standard even better. The figure on the body front is even nicer.
And I think the unbound neck with plain dots don't compete with the beauty of the body.

I understand what you mean - but for me I think the Advanced neck compliments the flamed maple and trans-finished bodies "better" so the whole bass from top to bottom is really popping and commanding attention...I find the standard necks are a little too "discreet" in overall appearance when paired with the trans-finished bookend maple bodies - they are great for the solid colored poplar bodies, though.
I'll put them side by side in the sunlight when the Advanced arrives over here in a couple of weeks and share some more fotos then...

You have won the day's Guild Pilot lottery, that's what you have there...!!!

It's a SB-602M and it looks pretty minty from what I can see - it's one that I or anyone else here would buy in a heartbeat...The serial nr. BE103885 makes this a 1990 model - CONGRATULATIONS with this wonderful bass and please upload more and better fotos when it arrives...!

I already have it. Bought it locally right from the store. Walked out with it last night. You are correct, everything is mint, even the case. I think it spent the last 30 years in the back of a closet.

Can anyone help me with specs? Are there variations in the EMG models Guild used over the years? Which EMGs are in this bass?

Also, I have never had a bass with EMGs before. Do the pups have batteries in addition to the 12v that is in the main cavity?

Really interesting bass. Enjoying it so far!

No variations in the EMG pups but the earliest Pilots from 1983 had DiMarzio pups before going over to EMG as standard from 1984, the only (non-custom order) exceptions being the Advanced Pilots which were equipped with Bartolini active pups...

Your EMGs have only one 9volt battery to connect to in the cavity - unless it was modified to an 18volt (2 x 9v in series) and there are no batteries in the pups themselves...

I JUST bought the Advanced Pilot, it's still in the post on it's way to me...Then like a day later, a fine gentleman offered me one of my Pilot "Holy Grails" which means that I am currently selling my ass cheap to sailors down the docks and now THIS magnificent boom stick shows up...W-t-f, for the past year or so you couldn't find a decent Pilot to buy, now they are being thrown from the Heavens at me - go figure...

Hi all...
Well, my 1988 Advanced Pilot arrived today - had to pay some import taxes/fees but I managed to keep them down to a minimum...:cool: I actually picked it up on the way to my practice room so, I unpacked it there, re-installed the neck (it was shipped neck-off to keep shipping costs/fees down) and parked it next to my other trans amber burst Pilot to see how they looked together - the Advanced has certainly less of a burst effect...I will give it some TLC and new strings in the next few days and then try to get a group foto of all of my Pilots together as well...:)
