Yes, I'm pretty certain that the "odd tuner" phenomenon on our Pro5s is simply because the 4 Left tuners up topside come from one complete new package of 4 L tuners, whereas the single Right tuner required either is a "single" or comes out of another package of 4 R tuners - from a different run with different production dates (which would explain the differences in appearance) to be used on 4 different Pro5s...The R tuners were only used on Lefty Pilots and 5 string Pilots and how many of those were among the 6000ish Pilots made...? Who knows, maybe 10%...? Nowhere near as many Rightys in any case...

I've just noticed something after all this time - your SB-605 with a foot headstock, has a cakeknife headstock logo on it...! :woot:
It's the only example of this situation I have ever seen or have in my Pilot foto archives...! I wonder if your 605 was produced right up to the crossover point and is one of certainly very few that have this "anomoly"...?

No idea, I think it's an '87 based on s/n?

Original ad, says 85 but it's an '87.

Also, Jaco played this bass and it's worth at least $28,000. No lowballers I know what I have. Very very rare.

Jaco or no Jaco, the neck on that particular Pilot has found it's way into my own personal "Top 3" - it's flame alone is spectacular and the "logo thing" really makes me smile...:) Maybe one day you can send it to me...;)

So, here's my little control cavity update...

@TrustRod - your file is excellent work...! A friend here printed me one of your covers and it's a perfect fit with no need of any fitting adjustments ...:thumbsup:
The only "hiccup" in this one (and hopefully only) instance is the upper screw hole as I mentioned earlier...It is 3-4mm offcenter to the left of the factory screw hole - the smiley on the foto below shows where the hole on your file is opposed to where it should be in this case...The other 3 holes line up very well...
Perhaps my friend can "tweak" your file to alter the position of the hole, we'll see...I still have to try this cover on a few other Pilots to see how the fit is on them before I print further examples...
Still, it's an awesome solution and I thank you very much once again for generously sharing your work with us all here...:thumbsup:

@TrustRod - please re-send your STL with the center of the upper screw hole moved 3mm to the right...:thumbsup:

I tried the printed cover on 4 different, random Pilots aside from the 605 it's being made for - a poplar 602, a maple 602M, an Advanced 902 and a Pro5 and I have come to the conclusion that each cover is unique to it's bass...

I think that the factory control covers were a standard size and shape but that the cavity "lip" that the cover sits upon could vary in shape by 0.5mm to 2mm in random areas as my printed cover would fit well, poorly or not fit at all...As the cover size is constant, the cavity lip is therefore different. Also, the factory covers themselves have been "shaved" here or there to properly sit into the cavity lip of perhaps every few bodies...

Then we get to the screw holes - either they were pre-drilled (in "more or less" the same location) in the factory covers and then screwed down into the cavity lip, or the factory covers were blanks that were first drilled when they were laid down onto the cavity lip - either is possible. The only screwhole that seems to be somewhat constant on my Pilots is the right hand screwhole...All the others are random hit and miss by 1-3mm...

My friend says that your new "Version Nr.2" OBJ file should work also and that he will try printing this new version next friday when he returns from Barcelona...

We also ask if it is possible for you to share a third and final version of your cover - one where there are NO holes at all, only the "blank" as I have mentioned before...?

Odd how there doesn't seem to be a standard hole placement. I guess it gives it a handmade feel.

I like it this way myself...:D

My friend is enjoying himself with these covers - he's trying out different versions of the cover and today he gave me a color/material sample to take home and pick a few for him to try - together with an extra black and purple "Version Nr.1" cover and some cool detail ideas...:cool:

This is turning out to be quite a fun project...:thumbsup:

Cool, I'm glad it's fun, I have tons of models for guitars and basses at this point. I added a no hole option at
