Only an hour away...? You're very lucky - that's a dream scenario for me...Usually mine are found in other countries - I once flew a 1900km round trip to Zürich to pick up one particular Pilot...✈ In the past 34 years, only 4 of mine were found an hour or less from where I live...🤣 Once again, Congratulations - I am a bit jealous...😉

Anyone made a finger ramp for their Pilot? I have them on my Jazz and soap bar pickup basses. My Pilot is my only PJ. I love it, the ergonomics are incredible, but I find myself missing a finger ramp. The body countour supports my preferred position of right hand between the pickups.

Maybe I’ll just try a taped on thumb rest between the pickups.

Also thanks for the recommendation for DR legend flats. Just strung a set on my Pilot and having fun noodling. I’m finding myself playing chordal tones and they ring really nicely on the Pilot with these strings. I’ve tried Brite flats in the past and never loved them. Legends seem more my style.

Sadly, yup and yup.

I offered to buy this one a couple of times a 3-4 years ago - and pointed out this particular abomination as one of the several reasons my offered price was more than fair...I never got any answers and it's currently at the highest price I've ever seen it at - 3 times it's actual value, in my opinion...It's on Reverb if you want a chuckle...

Hey there's a pink one listed for twice that :bored:

I do feel like these basses should be valued around the $1k mark. They're easily "worth" it. They probably will be, they're coming up on that 40 year vintage mark.

For $500-$600 I'd never sell mine, what bass could I possibly buy for that $$ that would get even close to my Pilot?

The guy with the pink Pilot is dreaming, as well...😉

I have absolutely no problems paying "top dollar" for Pilots - based on model/version and CONDITION, herafter with original case or not and it's condition as well...

A beat-up, worn out, regular 602 with no original case (like that red one with the magnificent thumb rest) isn't worth 1K, but a well kept one with it's case is...A well kept 602M with a case, even more and so on & so on...

Can anyone here help me out...?

Please see the fotos below - I would love to find 4 (or more) of these black "washers" that were an OEM part of the 80's and 90's Grover mini-tuner sets that went onto Guild Pilot basses...Today, with present Grover minis, these "washers" have been shrunken to much smaller "rings" and these rings are not what I want on my Pilot headstocks when I make changes or restorations...

If anyone here has either the "washers" themselves alone or a full set or two of 80's-90's Grover minis (NOS or good/very good condition), please let me know - I would be happy to buy them from you (or trade for other stuff maybe?) for a fair price...

Has anyone changed the pickups on their Pilot? Might be sacrilegious to even ask.

I find it to be a bright bass overall which fits many things well, but I'm wanting to use it for some R&B/Funk material - mainly because I love the overall feel - body shape, weight, and neck profile. Considering trying out some different pickups, although I have plenty of other basses to play. Pilot's been collecting too much dust.

Mine is a Pilot Pro, so it might have a different tone pallet, but with flats, it has plenty of ⚽️ 🏀 🏈. When I played the B string below the 5th fret, it shook the house.

I need a Pro 5 string....

I actually grabbed a set of these and had them on the Pilot but liked them more on my Jazz so now they live on the Jazz. I have flats on EVERYTHING but want rounds on the Pilot for different tones on tap. I did really like the Legends on the Pilot, but the bass even with those strings is quite a bit brighter than with those legends on the Jazz. Rolling back the tone helps but I don't feel like there's quite enough tone shaping available with the tone knob without losing aspects I don't want to lose.

Overall I think you're right that next step is I should continue to try some different strings on it.

I have Fender flats on my Pilot (if you want to take brightness out, there’s your answer- tonal event horizon; I also have foam mutes) but I’ve gotten super hooked on GHS Pressurewounds: I have them on my 5 string (Ibanez Talman 605) and my fretless (Charvel 3B). Just love them, the perfect balance between rounds and flats.

Haven’t tried Pressurewounds, will have to check them out! I’ve never liked Boomers so have stayed away from GHS. Shouldn’t hold one string type against them I guess

1. Buy a set of Labellas
2. Build time machine
3. Send Guild Pilot back to 2000 without disrupting the timeline
4. Take Pilot from the case it’s been in for the last 25 years and enjoy the mojo
