Guild Pilot bass club?

The luthier who has done the refurb on the white 602 that I posted (post 1613) about back in may called me yesterday to tell me it's finished and ready to pick up...!

I'm unable to do this before 21.oktober, so he sent me a few teaser fotos that I thought I'd share here...😊

First impressions...?

What are everyone’s favorite strings on their Pilot? I put my go to jazz bass rounds on (SIT Powerwound nickel) but I’m not totally in love with them on the Pilot.
I use these 3, depending on which Pilot/gig I am playing...My "usuals" are either the Ernie Balls or the Dean Markeys.. The Sheehans are for when when I'm feeling extra spicy...😉

For some odd reason - now that I stop up to really think about it for a minute - I have never ever tried to play flats on a fretted neck...Which is amazing when you consider that for 40ish years my Hero of Heros has been Mr. Steve Harris...But then again, I have zero interest in Fender P basses as well...

I do not have a fretless Pilot - yet...I do however have a fretless Larrivée and I happily use these on it to make talentless "sound effects" on it...🤪

I have Fender flats on mine. It’s my “P-bass with flats”. My tastes have mostly moved away from the way Fender flats sound (very “flat”!), but the EMG split coil does brighten up the tone more for them on the Pilot than they sound on any of my other basses. I don’t have a current band situation that I use my Pilot for, but if I did, I would probably swap out the flats for GHS Pressurewounds, which are my current go to.

Just ordered a set of these from Jason at FretNation. i've been considering a bright set of flats for the Dingwall SP1 I have on pre-order, good excuse to try out a set of strings I've never played before.

I run LaBellas on my P Bass so I have the traditional P with flats tone covered.
My Pilot is a 603, so it’s my P-bass.

My Pilot is fretless.
A previous owner pulled the frets.

So, I picked up the re-finished "Penny Pilot" yesterday...It looks like It's supposed to - with the noteable exception of the headstock logo...I absolutely did not imagine I would be seeing the "clear" portion of the logo around the lettering...😵‍💫 I am still not exactly sure why, because the guy who did the painting couldn't really understand it himself, blah, blah, blah - he couldn't fart around with it too much as it was the *only* black-lettering waterslide decal I had and it was an *original* from the 80's or 90's...Thoughts, people...? Also, for the time being, this is an "experimental passive pup" Pilot - time will tell if it gets new active EMGs and the complimentary EMG BTS...

Anyway a couple of fotos out of and in the sunlight to see what this matte copper paintjob looks like - I hope it pleases your eyes...🤞🏻

Found a fretless 602 from a local-ish seller on reverb and could not help myself. Amazingly light and great tone and plays like a dream.

Congratulations...! 🍾 Light because it's poplar wood under the paint...Enjoy it - I'm waiting for one of those to get close enough to me, too...😉 I'm pretty sure yours is the one I was eyeballing a couple of weeks ago - did it come with an original hardshell case (4528B)...?
