Guild Starfire ii vs Warwick Star bass

Hey,

I have not been able to find a direct comparison between these two and would like to hear from someone with direct experience with the both of them...

The Guild appeals more aesthetically to me (I can not quite get the warwick head stock) but online demos the tone of the warwick seems to have a little more going on.

A local store is getting the warwick in for me to try but i will need to dig a little deeper to try the guild.

any comments on playability / quality / tone / etc would be appreciated.

depends on the starbass-
if its Korean/german it will be 34 scale. if its a rockbass, it will be 32.
no experience with the guild, but the warwick has single coils in traditional 60's jazz location if that helps.

I have the Guild NS SF-I and really like it. Build quality and playability are great, but it doesn't have a real versatile tonal range. That said, I really like the sounds I CAN get out of it. This demo, which you've probably heard, gives a pretty good impression of the sort of tone at which this bass excels:



If you opt for the Guild, I'd go for the SF-II which likely offers a somewhat broader palette.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with the Warwicks.

Have you considered the Reverend Dub King (another short scale, semi-hollow)?

@joebar It is the 34 scale Koren one I am looking at. I like the idea of the jazz spaced single coils...

@Mustang Surly It would be a starfire ii i would consider. I don't personally care for versatile as long as i like what it does. I will see if the shop can get both in to look at... the reverend does not really 'float my boat' so to speak. Don't know why. It just doesn't

I own a modded Guild SF and it is a great bass - The pickup is a monster. I have played a MIK star, nice but the Guild has a bit more vintage vibe/tone and I dig the short scale.

I couldn't call this one. Even if I had any money, I couldn't justify buying a semi-hollow for the type of music I could play, but I really like both of these. If the SF-II was available in cherry maybe that would tip the scale?

Good luck deciding! What do you have currently? Maybe think about where your new bass would sit in comparison to any other basses you have?
