Guitar Center™ Challenge

Two things that affect my choice:
- I like to buy used gear, so I looked at only used gear at the closest GC to me (Grand Rapids, MI)
- I'm crippled so I never bring a big amp to gigs unless the drummer will carry it for me.

With that in mind, here's what I found at my local GC:
Rickenbacker 4003 $1,399
Ampeg BA110V2 $100

I would dime the crap out of the amp and call it a day.

Since I play only 5's, my only available choices would likely be an Ibanez or a Squier, unless they had something used. I would hope to find something like a P5 or ideally a PJ5.

After buying strings, strap, etc...e, I'd get the most Ampeg I could for the money left over. That's what I use so it would take at least that piece out of the 'unknown' category...

cable - $20
tuner - $20
8 ball - $200
Stage outfit - $200
Stage makeup - $30
Wig - $150
Cab ride to the gig - $15
Dinner - $30
Bet on the game - $50

That leaves $5 for incidentals. I assume drinks are on the bar, and that I'll sleep in some cheap tramp's trailer.

GK MB115 - Perfect stage monitor for most sized venues that can run direct to the board
MIM Jazz - Solid enough and has the tone and ergonomics I'd be happy with in a pinch (in general too)
A pack of RS 66's - Not likely to break a string but it happens...
2" leather strap - Kinda goes without saying
TU-(whatever number it is now) tuner - Gotta be in tune
10' and a 20' cable - Kinda goes without saying

I'd be in and out of there as fast as it took me to type this out.

All that and a bit of beer money left over...

For me...

I'd get whatever they had used so I could get more of my $ back when I upgraded or found my stolen gear.

Something like a used MIM P bass $400
Used ___________ ~500w solid state amp $250
Used ___________ 410 cab $400

Total $1150

If I have to spend all of it..

I'd add an VT bass or Ampeg SCR DI $150

I think it's just the bass that one is most likely to find at a GC (in addition to Squier and Fender). I certainly wouldn't pick an SR if I had another good option. I was thinking active 5 and the Fender Am. Jazz Elites are too expensive for this exercise.
