This would be how I'd play it as well, though I might spurge a little on a Stingray 5. They have some nice ones at a local GC and it'd be exactly what I'd like to start over with.

I play heavy metal music, for reference.

I'd honestly debate returning the stuff as well - I'm a Dingwall + Fractal Audio guy, and there's really nothing in the GC that will replace either of those. So I'd buy up the next 5 string Dingwall that I saw, buy another Axe-Fx II, and use my AX8 until that showed up.

Using your scenario, I'd probably end up with a GK or a MarkBass combo and find a bass I could tolerate. When I was amp shopping about a year ago, GC didn't have anything I was interested in but the MarkBass wasn't bad. I'd splurge on the amp and get a lower priced bass like a G & L Tribute. No Fender for me.

Only one problem with the G&L - they are never in the showroom, at least not at my GC. Good choice otherwise.

Can't believe the bassman 10 has maintained its value. I paid $450 for mine in 1977. There are much better amps now that are less expensive and put out more volume, like the Fender Rumble 200 v3

mid ranged P bass or JP(Japanese maybe American if I can find a used one) - countryman di- tc mini comp... a low capacitance cable.. a surge protector, DR back beauties.. a mini tuner.. a comfort strap.. maybe a tc mini chorus.. a Mxr distortion.. scape piece of pallet if can find one.. pedalboard tape. yep

If I was robbed, I'd go home, grab my trusty Jazz and the extra P bass, and my other distortion box. Then I'd grab 2 extra sets of strings. I would next go get a GK 700RB or 1001RB and whatever combination of NEO series cabs was in stock, plus a chorus.

But... I'll answer your question as posed. GK MB 212, Fender Standard Jazz (or maybe a P) and whatever distortion or fuzz that wasn't crap and was fairly inexpensive. Probably an extra set of strings. Cables I can borrow, and a onespot power supply isn't hard to find.

Some sorta' Effder 4 under $700 and something Hartke/GK/Peavey, etc. 200w combo w/ a 15" driver under $500, (maybe from the used section), $100-$150 for cables, strings, cheapo tuner, gigbag and strap. Bargain hard for an 'out-the-door' deal and have 'em do a set up on the bass.

With a decent P.A.? Scrap the amp and get a good D.I. and a nice cable.

Likely return most of it in the morning and get on the phone to beg/borrow gear to finish out the tour.

Then I'd cruise down to Los Pollos Hermanos for a bite while I wait to hear back from him.

I'd grab a Squier JJ (whatever played best, off the wall) and the biggest Fender Rumble GC had.

This challenge would be a lot more funner if that budget was cut in half. GC usually has a ton of good, cheap stuff. So 1500 ain't all that difficult. You could get VM or CV Squier, a Rumble 200 and all your accessories for less than a grand.

You guys are making this all complicated IMO. You guys only need to list amp and/or head, and the bass. I guess we do have to go into details however, so I guess.

However, I would assume I would have to choose a versatile bass because we aren't told what kind of gig it is. I'm conflicted between the Spector Legend 4x Classic and an MTD Kingston Artist Fretless, but I think I would choose the Artist because then I only have one pickup to fool around with rather than waste time fooling around with two. Yeah it would be a fretless, but as long as I'm adjusted and in-tune, I will adjust, especially if I use my remaining time to noodle around. For amp, I'll go with a Fender Rumble 500. Strings will be Rotosound 66's. That leaves me with about $49 dollars left or so to get a cable, a gig bag and a strap.
