Guitar Center Changes Their Logo

I remember trips to the old Guitar Center in the Beverly neighborhood on Chicago's south side (on 79th St?) way back in the '80s when I was in high school. It was the one and only Guitar Center in Chicago and kind of a cool place because it was an actual guitar (and drums) store, worth going to. This was about 15 years before they started moving toward the modern corporate big box business model more (probably too many) locations.

Now Guitar Center is pretty sad. There's zero shot that I'd actually buy an instrument from GC now, let alone go there to look. There's one about 12 minutes from my house but going there just to buy small things like strings there is only something I'd do in a pinch.

However, I think this logo refresh makes a orld of difference!

It kind of a miracle that Guitar Center even still exists. Over the last 10 years I’ve only bought a few sets of strings from the location near me. I do stop in from time to time and I’ve never ever seen anyone making a major purchase. The rent alone must be $10,000 a month. I don’t know anything about business but they’d probably have to sell about $15,000 worth of merchandise just to cover that and I can’t see how that’s possible.

At this point there's been too many times recount all the occasions I had the thought "they're still going?"

brand recognition is something that companies pay many millions of dollars to achieve. GC already has this, and their logo is something musicians have been seeing for years or decdes.

i actually LOLed :D

Changing the logo is a chance for GC to show they’re alive and breathing. If you think back not many months ago, a lot of people in the industry expected them to go bankrupt any day. The pandemic instrument sales boom and more examples of creative finance of their considerable debt are the only reasons they’re still here

But a change you can't even notice without it being pointed out?

What i don't understand is..... Why did THIS need it's own topic...?

I don't want to offence anyone, TB has some awesome topics, highly informatic, but often there is topics for stuff that makes me wonder why anyone has a nessecity to talk about this, or want others opinions.
Actually, threads like this are one of my favorite things about TalkBass. Many of the most enjoyable things in life aren't technically necessary...they're just fun and/or interesting.

I like being able to talk about subjects that aren't so weighty. Lightening up is a good thing!
