Guitar Center Changes Their Logo

What i don't understand is..... Why did THIS need it's own topic...?

I don't want to offence anyone, TB has some awesome topics, highly informatic, but often there is topics for stuff that makes me wonder why anyone has a nessecity to talk about this, or want others opinions.
I think a large majority of people on TalkBass enjoy bashing Guitar Center. It’s tradition.

Well, you have to filter it through "I'm not the whole universe". You see, people are different. And different people are interested in different things.

Of course, I've clicked on a topic and though to myself "That's not interesting to me at all. Next."

But that's a very different attitude from "Why would ANYBODY be interested in THAT. Talking about THAT is a complete and total waste of time and internet bandwidth!"

My version simply expressed MY view on the subject without projectingmy views onto other humans. Your version (and my intentionally-blown-out-of-proportion version) assume that you are the universe, and that anyone outside your universe is simply wrong, and backwards, and quite possibly stupid.

See the difference?

I'm just giving you a little crap pre coffee this morning. Short version: Your post seems a little arrogant. There's plenty of room on the internet to discuss things that are interesting to others, which, at the same time, mean little or nothing to you (or to me, for that matter).

(TB grammarians, please fix that last sentence for me. It reads well. But something about it seems off.)

Seeing them side by side, I have to admit the old one does look dated in comparison. With the current trend of oversimplifying brand logos, I’m surprised they didn’t remove the guitar logo.
But how does adding a “G” make it not dated? It wasn’t a crisis in the first place for decades, or else it would have been done already, and most people never noticed anyway. If they were going to completely overhaul everything, they should have changed the font, then either change the outline art of the guitar, or drop the Guitar out of the name of the company, replacing it with some vague, manufactured term involving sound making. Not music, but sound making.

The font is what makes it look dated. It’s an old style.

Actually, if they decide to change the signage, letterhead, all uniforms, etc. it will cost a ton of money. My company just changed its name. It's a company you've never ever heard of and the signage change at every location, graphics on fleet vehicles, etc. is going to cost millions and take a couple of years.

Ah... "Rebranding"! You're not kidding about the cost.

I work for a worldwide company, who pretty much everyone here has heard of, that has changed it's name and logos several times due to mergers and acquisitions. We own over 140,000 vehicles and probably nearly as many signed locations, not to mention branded apparel for customer facing employees.

Each time, the entire project had to be completed over a specific time window, usually two weeks. All the vehicles needed to be done between 10p-6a local time, while parked. Each vehicle had existing decals removed before the new stuff goes on. I'm sure the vehicle work was done at a premium rate due to the time of day requirement.

The cost of each change has never been publicly stated, but it had to be massive. At one point, we even changed our stock ticker! :woot:

So’s the new one, it’s very generic, and really not that different. Ultimately, the stylishness of fonts is absurd; it doesn’t change the product inside the store.
For a long time there was all this talk about the death of the guitar, and how having skills with playing real musical instruments in general was on the decline. Then came Covid, and a spike in interest with playing guitar to pass the time(on a par with breadmaking), followed by the supply chain issues. The inevitable sell-off of instruments by the dilettantes should even that situation out, but I’m not sure what the reality is. I’d guess it’s going to eventually go back to a falling off in interest in actual instruments(because it takes too much time and effort)so they should just get it over with, drop the ‘Guitar’ concept and retool their mission. But they’re better off than piano stores, nobody wants to bother with those things.

They did both of those things. Look closely at the letters, and the width of the guitar necks, and the headstocks. It's subtle, but they are different.

i actually LOLed
Guess I shouldn't have hidden mine behind a spoiler tag. :wacky:

There's four pages of opinions, so there you go.

They changed their website too. I used to be able to view the inventory of each store to see if there's anything interesting. I can still search used within 50 miles, but no longer search the inventory of a store.
They did change it, but I just checked on my phone and I could still filter results up to a 500 mile radius of a zip code and then pick out individual stores. Is this different than how you were searching?

Now, back to the UC bashing!

I used to be able to shop by store. There are three store near-ash to me, but in different directions. I used to be able to see if they had anything interesting. Eh, no real loss. They haven't had much that was interesting for a long time.

EDIT: the cynical side of me wonders if it's a step towards going online only.

EDIT2: No, selecting store is now kinda hidden. Sort of, you have to go to Shop and then select the store at the bottom of the list.
