Guitar Center Has Done It Again!

When I first started playing, a musician friend of mine (bass player too) said: Welcome to the club; get ready to be treated like a second class citizen by a lot of companies.
I don't think it's that drastic, but there are 100 guitars sold for every bass. It takes an intelligent person to look past the hype and pick an instrument with character :)

I found I'm much happier if I don't have to go to Guitar Center. From their stupid hours (open at 11am?!? Get real, they don't primarily cater to working musicians) to their ridiculously limited (for such a big place) selection, there's not a reason in the world for me to shop there. In our area, they're carpetbaggers anyway, taking the easy sales from the music stores that give (and gave) good service, many of which are now gone because they were so small. I wanted to get a set of short scale flatwounds. None at GC, and I found them at a much smaller music store which told me they could get me any brand I asked for, and for not much more than GC would charge (for the brands GC carries, anyway).

About the 11 year olds getting their Strat-paks, in 7th grade (12 years old) I chose bass over guitar. Definitely one of the best choices of my life. There is the occasional person (usually guitards) who say "Bass is easier than guitar." but really its an entirely different beast. Some guitarists play bass on the side when needed, but its nothing like what a real bass player can do. I actually consider bass to be harder to play sometimes.

more pepole play guitar than bass duh , oh well

same when you go to a pawn shop 10 acoustic guitars 0 acoustic basses , 20 electric guitars 5 electric basses

just be happy you are not a lefty try finding a used deal on a bass you really want

Does anyone on here still look at catalogs? It's called the internet, you obviously have it. Catalogs are for people who have yet to master technology and still like to call the places they order parts from. Like the guy answering the phone making $8 an hour really gives a ****. Totally clueless thread.

One redeeming quality about having a GC close by is their 30 day money back returns. I've used it to try out a lot of basses/amps for the 30 days and returned them later. It's a good way to really test drive something and then if you like it, pick it up used later. :p

I actually enjoy reading guitar catalogs as opposed to going online. It`s more enjoyable to sit back wherever and chill while I browse through the pages. Just my opinion.

Yes, people still look at those paper things in the mailbox.
Yes, people who get asked their mailing address after plunking down $1200 expect to be informed on the latest deals.
Yes, it's called a Bass GUITAR.
