Guitar Center Has Done It Again!

So, I get my Guitar Center catalog in the mail today, and lo and behold, they gave us 1 entire page (front and back) of basses.

Now, I know that GC has never gone out of their way for us, but seriously now. The guitarists get 5+ pages for electric and acoustic each, and all we get is 1 page!

Is it trivial? Yes, but it still has me more than a little annoyed. :spit:

If the ratio ever flip-flops, you'll also notice it's 10x harder to get into a band. It's good to know we're not a dime-a-dozen just yet. ;)

Thats why it's called GUITAR center..........DUH!

Bass guitars, banjos, resonators etc. are sold by them, but it's not their main thing.

But if you're a seasoned player, don't mess around with Guitar Center. It's a great store to go in and play if you see something that strikes your fancy to keep your chops up - I only go in to try amps and make sure my fingers don't freeze when I'm on the road. If you want a real bass, get in touch with Atlanta Bass Gallery, Bass Specialties, Austin Bass Traders, The Perfect Bass (see a pattern emerging here?). :D

The Musician's Friend Catalog is the same way.
(Surprise, surprise- GC owns MF)

It's the law of averages. They probably sell 4 guitars to every one bass. Hence, they're going to cater more to the larger market.

The average 11 year old, with mom & dad in tow, to pick up the tab for the guitar starter pack, usually doesn't aspire to bass. That, IMO, is the prototypical GC client, the guitar supermarket customer. Kids usually "discover" bass later, & in far fewer numbers, than the Strat-Pak bunch.

I can usually count the number of bass choices...once past the Squier's & Epiphone's...at my local GC, using both hands.

I haven't bought a bass from them since my Ric (used) in the late 80's. There's a new GC in my area, I go by it every day, coming home from work. Never stop in...never a reason to.
