Guitar Center Has Done It Again!

So, I get my Guitar Center catalog in the mail today, and lo and behold, they gave us 1 entire page (front and back) of basses.

Now, I know that GC has never gone out of their way for us, but seriously now. The guitarists get 5+ pages for electric and acoustic each, and all we get is 1 page!

Is it trivial? Yes, but it still has me more than a little annoyed. :spit:
That's why I shop at Bass Specialties, my local Philly bass-only store.

Does anyone on here still look at catalogs? It's called the internet, you obviously have it. Catalogs are for people who have yet to master technology and still like to call the places they order parts from. Like the guy answering the phone making $8 an hour really gives a ****. Totally clueless thread.

It's hard to drag the desktop computer into the John. ;)

Catalogs are nice to look through, and if you find something worth checking into, then you can go to the internet and research it a bit more.

However though as far as basses goes, the GC in Lexington has a pretty decent selection. Amps are a bit thin though, ampeg and acoustic are about all they carry. Used selection is even thinner.

Wow!! Big shock. ;)

But if you're a seasoned player, don't mess around with Guitar Center. It's a great store to go in and play if you see something that strikes your fancy to keep your chops up - I only go in to try amps and make sure my fingers don't freeze when I'm on the road. If you want a real bass, get in touch with Atlanta Bass Gallery, Bass Specialties, Austin Bass Traders, The Perfect Bass (see a pattern emerging here?). :D

I'm going to disagree with that statement just a little bit. You can be a seasoned player and still be on a budget. Hence needed to shop some place like GC or Scam Cash (Sam Ash) Fortunately, both stores do carry a few higher end Fenders, Cirrus, and the 55-02 series as well, you can also get a 55-94 from both downside to that one is you have to order it though.. But nonetheless all the basses I just mentioned are of professional tone and quality.

BUT

if you are looking for some used gear
like last weekend i drove my mom and my aunt out to modesto for their high school class reunion,
so i was wasting time in modesto, waiting for he event to be over
visited the two pawn shops, skips music and the local guitar center
there in the gc, against the back wall
used line 6, and some other stuff not so attractive stuff
and two fender dual showman heads
listed at 1000 each
bought them both for 1200 out the door
took em home
biased
they are bad ass
a good gc stop

We have a place about an hour from me called The Bass Place. I've never been there, but I can't imagine it'd be a bad shop at all. =)

It takes an hour to get from Glendale to Scottsdale Rd in Tempe??? I knew there was reason I didn't go to Cardinals games ;)

Try it - you'll like it.

Note: I am not now, nor have I ever been, affiliated with The Bass Place.

That's another good thing about playing bass. They were probably in there for several months, if it had been a high end used Marhsall JMP/JCM or a Mesa Rec head they wouldn't have budged on the prices and someone would have still paid it.

Take pride in the fact that most of the very few basses you see in these catalogs usually make their way to a backyard party, wedding, or club to entertain the masses...while most of the guitars you see are probably doomed to an eternity of collecting dust in the corner of someones bedroom.

I do remember a bass issue some time ago. Probably won't see another one again in my lifetime though.

I still like catalogs.
