I live in Dubai U.A.E.
I got my fender jazzbass online from bass central, and it's really cost me ******** of money. Anyway, ROCK ON, guys!!

Guitar center is what it is.
My local one is unbearable most of the time, but they do have sales, and sometimes it can be a beautiful thing. When I show up, it is never more than 30 min after they open for the day. That helps.
They do occaisionally make spectacular deals. For example: 6 months ago they had three Warwick (passive) fretless Corvettes - each one a bit shopworn to be sure - All marked at 800 bucks.
I asked if they had another in the back, "still in the box".
Guess what happened next. ;-)
I am grateful that they are there. I have now spent at least a few minutes with all kinds of high end basses. It has helped me know what I want and don't want. It's a bit like Sam's Club for instruments in a way.
If you don't get carried away, it is a good thing.
Sure do wish there were more retail options though.....

harder?? to get into a band? i find it easier.everyone in my area pretty much just plays guitar.there is probably 50+ of them.maybe 5 other bass players besides me.and like 3 drummers.so yeah.around here it's definatly easier for me to get into a band then a guitarist.higher demand for bassists

Frankly I personally dislike catalogs they (GC/MF) aren't as informative as one would like them to be.. I like insight on a guitar or bass when I buy one EX: they'll tell you the bass has 21,22,or 24 frets but alot of the time Im looking for jumbo frets and the dont include this in catalogs, or what pickup is in this one item sure I know its single coil or humbucking but who doesnt know this already. I really only step into GC now and then to test out amps cabs and in case i bust out a string.I dont buy extra sets when im there strings usu last me month.

I did buy my very fine 2002 MIA P-Bass from Guitar Center. The new drummer in our band works at Guitar Center. The only sad thing about playing bass again is the unrealized future discounts I might get. I had to purchase my Hartke LH1000 from another store because GC doesn't stock Hartke. Don at LDS sound gets to build my 15" bass cabinet because he needs to match the 2 x 10 he built for me 7 years ago.

What's left? Well my bandmate drummer can still get me strings and cords & stuff so it ain't all bad.

When I want that MM Stingray 5, he can probably help me out too.

GC is a-O.K. with me.

Hey "adhus" you don't need to live in Dubai to have a hard time finding good bass guitars to buy. Try living in the Zion desert, Utard. We have maybe two decent guitar shops and of course GC which has the crappiest bass room, with the most limited, damaged equipment. GC is the worst option for ever wanting to buy anything from them except for cables, picks and the small stuff. Unfortunately those beautiful bass centric outlets mentioned in previous posts are located in cities too far away for us Utards to venture to....we can't get past the border guards.

To all that say that GC is a total let down etc. I would like to say that I have never had anything but good experiences. They don't always have everything I want, but it has always been a pleasure to buy the things I want that they have. Their service, return policy, selection and 12 month no payment / interest is all second to none in my exerience.

In 6th grade 11 yeas old i chose bass too. Guitar is soo freaking cliche.

I wish I could say the same about my GC. Their selection is terrible, unless you're looking for a Fender Jazz or P-bass. Trying to find someone to help you is impossible. You could stand perfectly still, staring at a bass for 15 minutes and no one will come over to you and ask if you need help. They'll just walk right by and make like you're invisible.

Sounds more like Lowes. I don't know which is worse as salesman breathing down your neck or not getting any service. I've never had either problem at G.C...... Had issues with ignorant sales people that don't know their product like the kid that didn't know how to hook a mixer up to a power amp or the Store Manager that adamantly told me that the Eric Clapton Strat didn't have a V neck. (slight or otherwise) but overall they are pretty good. Most gear I buy at the local mom and pop shop around the corner for the last 25 yrs though.

Yes, it is annoying to only have one page to browse, however, look at the bright side and be glad you're not a lefty like me. ;) You want to talk about feeling left out in the cold... :crying:
