Guitar Center used site

I'm trying! Two different employees blew me off the same way. "I'm not sure what we can do, I'll talk to my lead/manager, and we'll call you back in ten minutes or so."

Like a goddamned script.
I've bought quite a few basses and guitars from GC the past 6 yrs. I've gotten to the point of not attempting to negotiate because it usually doesn't work, although I was successful negotiating some $$ off of 2 basses several years ago. I think enough to cover the tax if I recall. Both used basses were in the $1400 range to start.

Getting a call back is a different issue. Many there are bad about returning calls. Weird. It's happened several times when I wanted to buy a bass that was listed. I'd have to call back hours later because they didn't call back like they said they would.

They can't really change the price just because you asked, even if it is priced high for what it is.
They drop prices based on how long it sits in the store.
Store managers sometimes will do a little something but mostly they don't.

90 days is when they drop the price.
When I was looking for a S series Ibanez guitar, I picked out the ones I was interested in & saved a link to each one in a folder on my desktop.
I'd check them once in awhile & when the price dropped on a sweet one I ordered it.

Hadn't thought to ask for free shipping, but I'll try to remember that next time.

They charge $20.09 to ship all over the country....until this year it was even lower at $12.50
They ship used basses for less than their cost, they don't really have room to drop it on the cheaper used basses.

I just got a quote to ship a 50 lb, amp and the charge was about $20!
That seems incredibly fair especially compared to Music Go Round or Reverb.
OTOH, I bought a Genz 2x12 Neo cabinet as well as a Fender 800 Pro amp years ago and they didn't charge shipping then.

$20.09 seems to be their set their price to ship used gear, no matter weight or size.

In case this makes it to the website without photos and still listed as Vintage 70s Alembic Omega. Very, very bad knockoff, they didn’t even try.

Did you see this at one of the Guitar Center stores? If so, which one? Dude has been trying to pass this off as a "rare 70s Alembic". He posted it here on TalkBass and his post was flagged and deleted. Then it showed up on Facebook Marketplace and got deleted from there, too. Would suck if anyone buys this thinking it is an Alembic bass and if Guitar Center is selling it as such they need to be notified of their error. Here is a link to a thread on the Alembic Club forum about the Facebook listing where it is confirmed by Alembic that they did not make this instrument.

The Mesquite, TX GC. I actually bought it before they sent pictures, they pressured me into it with the someone else about to buy line, canceled immediately and told them that since it doesn’t actually say Alembic on the bass they probably don’t have to destroy it but they need to change their listing ASAP. According to them the vintage team of experts in Hollywood declared it an Omega. Morons.
