I have an off brand stingray 5 string copy and am not happy with the PU , Thinking about putting one of these in it and seeing , if still not happy then a pre amp would be next , Advice please

I have a pair of them running passive VVT with coil splits in my Yamaha bass that I modified. They sound great and I get compliments on the tone of that bass all the time.

I have a kramer forum bass w/original spector p & j passive pu"s..vol,tone,3 way..problem is my 500k vol pot goes from 0 to full volume..no low to higher,i thought maybe I needed to run 250k pots?

Uh, that doesn't really have anything to do with the OP's question, but it sounds like you got a logarithmic pot instead of an audio taper pot. Also 500k pots are pretty unusual for a bass. I would imagine it would make your pickups sound unpleasantly bright. 250k pots would be more appropriate for bass.

Now back on topic:

I'm interested in the GFS MM pickups as well. I really like the growly tone of the EBMM Sterling, which has ceramic magnets. Has anyone tried the ceramic version of the GFS MM pickup? Does it get close to the Sterling tone?

GFS doesn't sell 5 string pickups. I've had great luck with an Artec MM type 5 string pickup, wired in parallel. I have no complaints about the tone. I paired it with an Artec three band preamp with sweepable mids. This is on a parts bass I put together.

Have a pair of twin-blade humbuckers in my Tele, for guitar gigs. Can't complain a bit-hot, full sounding, and well shielded. Haven't tried the bass stuff yet, though.
