If you don't mind building one yourself...Fuzzdog does a great kit...and you can order up a Civil War with an options mid control or switch.

That's actually one thing to keep in mind about Muffs - they will often sound very different when played alone and in the mix. Getting one with good mids or a mids dial is pretty essential.

To OP, I owned that exact Muff you are looking at, I couldn't sell it quick enough, the Black Russian one I had was much, much better...

Also, the greystache by fuzzrocious is just awesome, that mid control makes a huge difference, IMO a mid knob is probably even more important than a clean blend

Man, OP, if you want a really great muff, grab that Vick Black Russian. Its inexpensive, has a mids selector, its small and built very well and it sounds awesome. I A/B'd it with the EHX Black Russian and to my ears, they were just about identical. VERY good muff the Vick is. Cant lose dude.

to answer your question ... NO , you won't break it ...

i would think bass & guitar pedals would be geared towards certain frequency ranges ...

i'm a fan of Blend knobs ... but if you try to Blend in a tiny bit of a very high distortion setting ... of course it will sound strange ... ! i use the Blend/Mix knob either to blend in a small amount of clean tone to help maintain low end tone , ... or blend in a small amount of very low distortion for a more warm tubey sound ..

I am most assuredly in the minority on this one, but I love the Bass Big Muff Deluxe from EHX. The blend is very useful, I also like the Crossover section (again, really in the minority there lol). My suggestion would be try as many as you can. Just make sure you are trying them with as few variables as possible (same bass, same amp, same cab, etc). I recommend using a P-bass with fuzz, for some reason it just works best for me when I've done that.
