That caught my eye as well. I saw a couple on line, but they only had 4 strings. I have a 4 string Mando-strat. Wish it had 8 strings. I may build one...
The first time I saw one of those that wasn't just a photo was my first time seeing Bela Fleck & the Flecktones in the mid '90s. Sam Bush was playing one.
That guitar kinda "puts the lie" to that quote by one of the Rolling Stones (I think it was Ron Wood) who said: "You don't go into a guitar shop and ask for a 'lead guitar'. You ask for a guitar and learn to play it."

I love it--lots of fun, but then I am hardly a traditionalist on mandolin.
For what I do it's perfect.
(And just so you see how close you came to the official model name:it's Mandobird. In this case the Mandobird VIII (for 8 strings) They had a 4 string version called the Mandobird IV--so that mimics the Firebird models, I, III, V, & VII)

As my other post indicates it was the Mandobird--but close...
They even have a firebird on the pickguard--it doesn't always show up that well in pictures.

Thanks, but I gotta admit: I prefer my purple guitars and will start saving the "gold" for hardware (on the purples and blacks).

Depending on when it was made it was either a Mandocaster or a Mandostrat
Originally fender called the Mandocasters, but let the trademark lapse, and Eastwood took it over for their Tele shaped solid body electric mandolins.
So when Fender reissued them more recently,, they went with Mandostrat.
I'd have been happy with a Mandobird, Mandocaster or a Mandostrat, as I like them all.
But got a great deal on a used Mandobird after Epiphone stopped making them.
Mine is a reissue, so I guess it's a MandoStrat.
Very cool! I’ve actually seen a Mandobird live. The Drive By Truckers’ Patterson Hood, a Gibson endorser, used one on their opening song at that show. It’s a song they rarely play live, so I was very pleased. And he typically uses an acoustic on that one. After a slight UPS delay, my Giffin is in my hands. I also had to delay shipping because I was on vacation. At least it didn't get destroyed.....

The honest to goodness goal of this guitar was for something that sounds similar to a Les Paul that hangs on the strap like a Strat. My technique is mostly based on classical and short horn guitars want to hang lower and more horizontal.

Iconic rock stars try to make the guitar vertical if they want to play in the upper register. No need with this.

Enough of my ugly mug. Here's a pretty guitar. Pickups are Wolfetone Dr Vintage. 17" radius, stainless steel frets, slim neck profile, 3 way switch for each pickup. Good setup and it's a featherweight, especially compared to most solid Les Pauls.

Series, split, and parallel for each pickup. With hindsight being 20/20, I probably could have ditched split with these pickups. I might have gone with a 2nd vol or tone and turn one of the knobs to push/pull for series/parallel.
Another guitar gig from about 5 years ago. Me on the right with the Les Paul and 50w Marshall bass plexi.
Used a touch of Uni-Vibe on the rhythm, and clean-to-mean was managed via guitar volume control. My dry-signal-chain solo starting at 3:10.

Mine were master volume, master tone, and the switches were humbucking/single coil for each pickup (IIRC, that was called the 22 option).
