This can be a controversial topic on some forums. I like having several options available whenever possible. The coil splitter on my Taylor is basically useless. The EMGs in my Steinberger sounded very sad. My ancient Kramer Pacers sound great. My Ibanez AZ and J Custom split really well.

The lower output Wolfetone Dr Vintage probably have too low of output to sound great in single coil mode. Hotter pickups tend to sound better when split. Parallel offers a nice unique sound for clean work. Still glad I found out.

Because they don't sound exactly like a Strat/Tele single coil. Almost like how adding a middle pickup to a Tele or adding a J to a P bass somehow ruins everything, except those barely make a difference. Not sure why guys get so crotchety about stuff. I can agree that a split coil doesn't sound exactly like a single coil and that some are better than others. I take no shame in trying to sneak in a few extra tones in an electric guitar/bass.

I think part of this may be because people often conflate "coil splitting" and "coil tapping". I have seen them used interchangeably on reputable retailers websites.

IMNSHO, coil tapping is garbage. All it does is throw the coils out of phase. Coil splitting actually removes one coil from the circuit.

I took classical guitar lessons for about a year before I discovered the bass. I have a strat, two nylon string guitars, a parlor acoustic, a ukulele, and a guitalele (6-string ukulele tuned like a guitar but from A to A). I can also play some drums and percussion. I suck at keys and wind/brass insrruments. I also suck at singing, but have successfully yelled in the background.

The blade switch on this chooses between different combinations of coils. Some combinations sounded better than others but none were what I'd call unusable. I sold the PRS and Swart STR-Tremolo a few years ago to concentrate on my acoustic guitar work (along with bass).

The honest to goodness goal of this guitar was for something that sounds similar to a Les Paul that hangs on the strap like a Strat. My technique is mostly based on classical and short horn guitars want to hang lower and more horizontal.

Enough of my ugly mug. Here's a pretty guitar. Pickups are Wolfetone Dr Vintage. 17" radius, stainless steel frets, slim neck profile, 3 way switch for each pickup. Good setup and it's a featherweight, especially compared to most solid Les Pauls.

I’m the same way with neck angles. So many instruments don’t make the cut….

Agree that there are too many guitars and a few basses that I can't play due to the poor ergos. The only exception I've made is for my Stambaugh Tele-style for the strap mounted B-Bender, which is only available on a regular shaped Tele. Duesenberg makes a multi bender bridge that might work on something Strat shaped.

My Tele is not perfect, but acceptable. I usually play that one sitting anyways.

I love Strat bodies, but not into the trem or the electronics.. I think I could get down with a hardtail HH tho.

but, I got an Ibanez Artcore (es335 style, slightly smaller body) and it sits just perfect. Had it a little over a year now, and it’s pretty much ended my search. (Never say never! ;) )

I've almost always been a Super Strat guy. I have some HSS and HH Ibanez that play great and have versatile electronics.

My semi-hollows are Taylor T3/B models, which have bigger bodies, but they hang perfectly on the strap.

@CallMeAl I have a strat with which I am (and always have been) underwhelmed.

Strat afficionados tell me it sounds great. I can attest to it playing really well, but for my money, you're not missing anything by not having a 7ender Stratocaster.

That said, I have somewhere on the order of 7 "SuperStrats" and a couple of off-set Vs, which by design are just odd-shaped "SuperStrats".

Actually, I envy your one-pick-up guitar. I've always wanted one (A La Eddie Van Headache). I can't seem to find one I like so, I think I am going to bite the bullet on a custom build.
