Guitar Straps and Locks

straplock.jpg

My DIY strap lock using cable tie.

Squier VM Fretless Jazz uses a 3" Planet Waves leather strap w/Dunlops. My Squier Chris Aiken P uses a 2 3/4" Walker & William's leather strap w/Dunlops (also on my Gibson Les Paul). My Ibanez SR305 uses a 3" Dimarzio cliplock strap (also on my Ibanez JS100 and Kramer 610 guitars).

Oh, and I use this strap on my Fender Jazz Special P/J because I found it's the best strap for metal! (The logo doubles as a pick holder!) Also with Dunlops.

Most of my straps are Levys, but I also have a 4" Italia that I use with my heaviest bass.

I've been playing 40 years, and for the past 15 I've used Dunlop Dual Design straplocks exclusively, zero failures. I used another popular brand over the 15 years prior to that, and frequently had failures with them. I stuck with them because they were better than no lock at all, and I didn't care for the original Dunlop design. The Dual Designs answered my prayers.

I have one bass that I properly use Dunlop's on. Even then, I used to just put the strap on and slip the Dunlop's over to keep the strap on. Most of my basses just use a cheap Levy's strap and plain ole' strap pins. I have never had a problem with basses slipping off the pins so I do not make a point to change them.

Once I played in a band where there was a bass break in one of our songs and I would throw the bass over my shoulder and let it fall back around, I needed strap locks for that,
otherwise not so much.
Remember Stevie ray Vaughn? He didn't use locks, moved around a lot ,played behind his back ect...
That being said, however fender buttons work pretty well there are some that I've seen (as well as poor quality straps) that would be cause for concern IMO.

What brand strap is that? Me like.

I Googled "Rock You" and came up empty.
