Guitar to bass conversion... am I crazy or could this work?

Hey all, I received for Christmas, an old Japanese hollow body guitar looking to be made in the late 60's early 70's (based on information I can find on good old Google) It looks to be a rebadge of an old Teisco hollow body guitar. It was bought to be just a display piece, every screw on the darned thing is rusted and destroyed, so the bridge, trem arm, and control plate are pretty much immobile unless I do some surgery.

So I had a thought in the shower last night about turning her into a bass by wedging a 34" scale neck on it and performing an overhaul on the body with some chrome-ish bass pickups (havent decided what configuration I would shoot for yet)

I wonder if with the right combination of pickups (maybe even a piezoelectric in the mix) I could attain a more wooden sound.

I will attach an image of the body to show what I plan on dealing with if I decide to do it.

Do tell me your thoughts.

Other than the neck heel being a bit on the narrow side on these, there shouldn't be any problems. People shave Squier necks all the time for Epi-birds though, so it's perfectly doable.

A some sort of a floating bridge is probably a must, since the bridge has to be quite high. That may pose some problems with the shortness of the tail piece.

Either real (=expensive), or imitation Höfner "staple" pickups would be my choice.

Eye a 34" bass and Your guitar side by side, the neck pockets lined up, that'll give you a general idea about how it'll look.
