Guitarist Freezes His Cables

They might have been joking. The guys from Tool, especially in the early days, used to play practical jokes and say silly things. If I remember correctly, they used to say their band was about using crying as a form of therapy.

Oh, and resistivity is a word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistivity

Its a value that determines a materials ability to oppose current at a specific temperature.

Well...I can see why people would think it wasn't a word. I wouldn't have heard of it if it weren't for a few questions in my electricity and magnetism homework. And it does sound like a bastardization of resistance. So I don't think its totally unreasonable to think it's a made up word.

I have an associate degree in electronics technology and I've never heard the word before, so don't feel bad.

btw OtterOnBass, Tool is known for saying ridiculous **** because they get their kicks out of that kind of stuff. Kind of like how Henry Rollins did vocals on the song "Bottom" because he owed them a bunch of money at the end of a poker game......?

ONe good story that comes to mind was a guitarist I was in a band with a decade ago. We were rehearsing in his garage and, being the showboat he was, would often invite people to 'hang out' while we rehearsed (which the rest of us hated). ONe night he's trying to impress some girls and tells them his guitar cable came out of a heart monitor, so you know it's good!!!

I, of course, waited until after rehearsal and looked at the cord...yep, it's got "Larry's Guitar Shop" stamped right above the jack. My bandmates and I made fun of that for months!

Another story, not music related, but still...

When I was 18 and in college I worked at a hotel as a busboy/banquet setup. A handful of the waitresses there were 21, just going out to bars for the first time. They were told, one night, probably by some douchebag trying to get them hammered, that drinking water after boozing it up was a bad idea because "Water intensifies the alcohol".

Funny thing is they bought it and for months afterward would talk about it as if it were a safe drinking tip.

I've heard this before, and I'm going to research it after I post this, but I believe it goes that if you get completely hammered and then are trying to chug water to dissipate the drunkness, the added H2O tricks your body into re-circulating the alcohol in your bloodstream, making you drunker (and in most cases, sicker.) However, everyone knows that gradually drinking water and fluids (and eating food) WHILE drinking keeps you less-drunk.

Again, I don't know if that first part's true, but I've heard it many times, as a 21 year old in college. I can't really attest to it, because I always drink water after a night of heavy drinking, either to re-hydrate and avoid a hangover, or to re-hydrate while I'm vomiting all my insides.
