After shooting several Gemtech - Rugers, both rifles and pistols......I'd HAVE to go with a quiet, Gemtech version of the MKIII
These things are just plain cool if your state allows. All you hear is the action cylcling and brass landing on the ground.

Well I stopped by the shop on my way home and guess what I found? A VERY lightly used Glock 23 with one mag for $419. So after the $10 BG check and $29 extra mag I'm out the door for a good price in about 15 minutes. I'm going to try this out for a bit... and if I like it I'll consider a 27 for carry. I have a Beretta 9000S that I'm not in love with that I'll consider trading in.
Cool!! That's a great size for a .40! Not to big, not too small. It should be a great shooter.
One fantastic and inexpensive upgrade is the oversized takedown button or lever. Best $$$ ever spent on a Glock
Below is one on my 21. It doesn't look like much difference but that little difference is HUGE!!

Regarding holsters - my most common carry gun these days is a little Kahr PM9. I carry it either in a basi Don Hume clip-on (model 715 I think) or more recently I've been carrying it in a Crossbreed Qwikclip in horsehide. The Qwikclip works great for small guns IF you have a thick and sturdy 1.5" gun belt. It does NOT work as well with a 1.25" belt - even if it's a quality gun belt like my Rafter S.
I also sometimes carry my Springfield XD45 compact. Being larger heavier gun it requires something more stable so it rides in a Comp-Tac MTAC. This holster is THE most comfy holster I've ever had on. I also used to have a CTAC. It wasn't as comfy but it worked well.
Before the MTAC I tried a Crossbreed Supertuck but it wasn't for me so I took advantage of the trial period and returned it. It was not comfortable against bare skin, the leather was very stiff and the holster (especially the kydex) seemed very "homemade" compared to Comp-tac or some other quality holster maker. Also, I did not like the retention of the holster on my XD45 compact. it slipped out too easy and it's a slide style so the muzzle sticks out of the bottom. In the week and a half that I had it and tried it out there were a couple of times that I almost pushed it out of the holster because of the weak retention and the muzzle sticking out the bottom. A couple of times was when my hand pushed it up while I was adjusting and once it kind of started to catch on a kitchen counter as I was leaning against it. Having said that they are a great company and Mark Craighead is a good guy. I have bought one of their belts and their Qwikclip holster.

but I'm bummed they only show the actual product and there is no shots of how it actually fits on a body with some kind of model shot. It's gonna' be really tough picking something out online and paying $50-100 without trying it on. Hmmm.....

Just buy from a place with a trial period or good return policy. I think CompTac has a trial period.
One other thing - the value of a good gun belt cannot be discounted. They are expensive and people often say, "but I do just fine with the $10 Dickies belt from Wal-Mart." I can't tell you how many people Ive seen on gun forums who've said that but then later gotten a quality gun belt and have then been like, "Oh... NOW I get it!" it really does make a huge difference.

Thanks to the idiocy of my father, I now own a S&W 9mm that either has very little time on it, or has never been shot. Newish gun with 2 clips/magazines for free . I can't remember the model at the moment, but it's a semi auto with black and chrome finish.

Cool!! Do you know if they made a 1st Generation version of that gun without the light mount rails?? I'd love to find one if they did.
I have a Steyr in .40 that I really like. It has an actual safety for those that don't like the Glock system. You can see it up in front of the trigger. It also has a chambered round indicator that you can feel in the dark which is a nice feature.
I'll not contradict your experience, but I'll throw out some more on my time with this holster.
I agree that for several months, I did not want to wear it without an undershirt between me and the leather. Once the suede wore down and all those little nubs went away, it was much better.
I use mine with my P228 mostly; it also fits the whole range of P22x pistols, but the P225 is a little loose because it is just a hair thinner; if your XD acted like my P225, I understand you concerns. All the other guns I have had no retention issues with.
I wore it for a four-day class at Tactical Response in Camden, TN and experienced no problems with retention. The third and fourth days were a carbine class where the pistol was holstered almost all the time. Even on the drills where we were on the ground, it didn't come loose.
Mark offers an option to cut back some of the shield so you can get a better grip on the gun. I ended up having a local leather shop make this modification for me about a year after I got it, and it made a big improvement in my opinion.
Also, my wife has the Quickclip for her M&P9c and is happy with that.
Ditto on the good belt. That makes a world of difference in carryability and comfort.

If I ever see one at a gun show, I'd be very tempted to snatch it up. IMHO, that gun with a Robar texture treatment on the frame would be AWESOME.
