The only interesting things happening lately (shooting-wise) is picking up a couple new optics.

First, an Eotech XPS holosight. This is the new style running on one laterally mounted CR123A.

Second, a Vortex Strikefire red/green dot.

Going out next weekend to sight them in and run a few rounds, if the weather cooperates. Will give a range report afterward.

If I remember. :D

P.S. - Nice Rorbaugh. I've heard many good things about them. Another case of getting what you pay for.

Thanks FL! I just needed a reminder about this thread. BTW, my wife (her wedding gift) is a Benchmade mini-Skirmish Limited edition. I must say that I love that blade profile! If I could get one with a spring assist I would freak out about it.

Anyway, here are my newest acquisitions. A H&K USPc chambered in .40S&W and a Rat Cutleries DPx H.E.S.T. I won't go backpacking without either of 'em!

Is there any way I can talk you into a reminder of some kind like a post in this forum when that Boker comes out?

Also, the Benchmade Rift is another design that I would really like to see in an assisted format. Yes, I like the assisted blades. Having been on the bad end of opening a knife too slow and going to the hospital I want to do everything I can to make sure a knife I'm carrying opens quickly and without effort. Also, within the same line of thought it kinda freaks people out. They think "switchblade" and I'll take what I can get. :D

EDIT: I fixed some spelling. Also, maybe one of these days I'll post some photos of what happens when you lose a knife fight. Hopefully once is enough. I'm better prepared if there is a next time. ;)

Nice gun, FL. I wouldn't mind having a Rohrbaugh. The only thing that kept me from even considering it when I downsized my carry rig a little over a year or so ago was the price. I went with a Kahr PM9. A little bit bigger but still very small. A lot of people said that it kicks as well but it doesn't bother me at all.

Hey all!

I'm in! I bought a Ruger MkIII Target Pistol (22LR) about a month ago. So far I've shot 1350 rounds through it, and it seems to do best with CCI Mini MagsRemington THunderbolts are super dirty & don't group well.

I got the 22 because the ammo is cheap & I can shoot all day if I like.

I prefer to go with Caliber/stopping power. I carry (or rather will, once I get my papers sent in *mental note*) a 1911 with an extended mag so I have an 8+1 capacity, and will probably carry another mag on me just in case. Then again I have a big frame myself, so i can deal with a full bodied 1911.

The reason is I might be getting my dad's recently traded S&W1911PD .45ACP as a graduation present. He has gone through a few 1911s mainly to look at them and shoot once in awhile. I have been looking at Springfield XDs and the Glock 17 & 19. I don't know. How does penetration factor into stopping power? Especially if it high penetration and a JHP?

Well, I don't know the S&W 1911, but I do know that Smith and Wesson are world renown for their revolvers, but their automatics, at least from what I've heard, are about middle of the road.

My dad has 2 XD40s and my mom has an XD40 sub compact that she carries. They are excellent guns, but the angle on the grip doesn't suit me very well. They are reliable guns though, and Springfield stands by them with a lifetime warranty.

Glocks are, in my opinion, overhyped and overrated. There is no safety on a glock, something which I feel is a serious issue. I've talked to 2 different guys and read a number of stories about guys who have shot themselves in the leg holstering a Glock because the trigger got caught on a piece of shirt or some such.

I have a Taurus 1911AR that I love to death. It's an all metal frame, so it's nice and sturdy, with so little kick it's ridiculous. It's accurate, has a light rail, and comes with 2 8 round extended cap magazines. When it's all said and done, if you can't get the job done with 17 rounds of .45ACP you don't need to carry a gun.

As far as penetration vs. stopping power. They make high quality PP (personal protection) ammo now that won't go through very much at all, but will spread and slice flesh up real nice. There are different opinions on speed vs size, but my general thought on the matter is that 2 shots in the chest with federal hydroshock, or Speer Gold dot, or some other similarly deadly and devastating round will put all but the most jacked up meth heads on the ground. Too much penetration can be an issue with smaller, faster rounds, like 9mm if you're using ball ammo, but if you're using hollow point (no reason not to in real world environments) ammo, then either caliber should work.

Yep, I have firearms and am very good at using them. One of the firearms that I have is an AR-15. Just for fun, my friend and I set up a paper target at 400 yards away and took 5 shots each using just the flip up sites. I hit 4 out of 5 on the paper and the 5th one hit on top of the paper half way. Half the bullet hit the paper and the other half hit the backstop it was stapled too. My grouping were not really tight but hitting a regular piece of paper from that far away, had me pretty impressed.

I have a S & W Model 60 2 or so inch barrel stainless revolver. .38 SP/.357 Mag. I haven't had the time to shoot it as the nearest open gun range is 15-20 miles out of town and ammo expensive now a days.

My carry gun is a S&W 1911. Great gun, light weight, very reliable.

There are SOO many things to consider when choosing a gun. My suggestion is get out to the shops and ranges and try to handle and shoot as many different guns as you can. Get familiar with all the various features and safety systems and get a feel for what you're comfortable with. A Glock might be a good first gun as the are very simple and ultra reliable. Some prefer a manual safety, others a decocker, some like single actions........it all come down to what feels right and works best for you.

I carry automatic knives sometimes. I have a few nice custom ones and a Benchmade AutoRukus. My best advice is to never bring a knife to a knife fight :D

A good friend of mine has the little Kahr. My problem with it is when the trigger resets, it tries to roll my finger under the trigger and pinches it between the trigger and the guard. Other than that, it's a nice little gun. I'd have to wear a Bandaid on my trigger finger if I was going to do much shooting wiht it.
