He was my best friend and I miss him already. :(

He took sick this weekend and they discovered a mass on his liver. He was 13 so the chances of him surviving the surgery were basically next to nothing and there was nothing else that could have been done. Rather than put him through that, I made the call to let him go. I know he's better off, still stings though.

That sucks. You did make the best call though.

Horrible thing to go through. I still choke up when I think of how I petted and comforted my yellow Lab when she was being put down (brain tumor). And that was 9 years ago. My Weimaraner is now almost 9, so I'm dreading when that day comes for her as well.

I'm sorry for your loss, Sonic...

Sorry for your loss. Better than making him live with the pain. I have had to put two of my cats down over the years, both due to cancer. I still miss all the fuzz balls that are no longer with us, I've got a number of cat shaped holes in my heart. But the years of warm furry companionship more than make up for thespian of losing them. I wish our RI Urey friends had longer lifespans...

I'm sorry for your loss, Sonic. I had to put Buddy, my German wirehair mix down in March. I just about cried my eyes out. I had him for 15 years, a long time for a large breed. He was my constant companion through thick and thin, including some very dark days following my divorce in 2005.

You did the right thing, and it will get better with time. I occasionally find a picture of Buddy I haven't seen in awhile and it makes me smile instead of tearing up.
