I have one, in cherry. I ordered it July of '09 and finally received it March of '10. I decided to buy one because a dealer rep friend of mine let me borrow his demo to check out (it was white), and it blew me away with its fit and finish, versatility, and even the intonation was great. Plus, I was having zero success with the ever-increasing number of Dean 8 offerings that were defective in one way or another. That's a saga in itself.
The first Hag showed up in February with the neck ripped from the body. Back it went. The second one arrived with the input jack falling into the body. The cup that the input jack was supposed to screw into was slightly oversized so the jack would just disappear when I went to plug in. Since I waited so long to receive the bass, I figured the hell with it and I'd just replace the jack myself. Before i did that, I noticed that the sound was distorted. Replacing the jack didn't fix that problem. The first bass that arrived broken was still sitting around waiting for a call tag, so I swapped out the entire pick guard assembly. The pickguard screws, I'm pretty sure, were made of chrome plated sugar. I knew and was fine with the fact that it was made overseas; it was a risk I was willing to take because that demo I tried was so spot-on in every regard.
It really is a beautiful instrument. It does have a wide variety of tones, which is great. The intonation, however is horrible. It's about 4 cents off once past the 12th fret. All the setup in the world won't take care of it. Plus, for the life of me, I can't keep the thing in tune. Curiously, it always go sharp on the main strings and flat on the octave strings. When I first saw the bass, I was taken by how cool the tuning machines are. Well, I prefer function over form, so I'm replacing them all with genuine Gotoh.
As for the intonation, well...
It's not my main bass. I guess I'll just avoid chording or even fretting beyond the 12th fret.
