Does anyone own one of these or know anything about them? I've seen a few players playing them onstage and they seem to sound great. I found a used one I'm considering. Thanks!

Thanks! Mostly curious if they are good instruments. I play a jazz bass but have been trying out some short scales for ease of playing live and like the Mustangs I've tried (JMJ and Vintera ii) but then came across this in my search. Where would you place it in terms of sound? And playability/balance?

Those are really sweet. My 1st bass was a used Tiesco that played like a baseball bat but, my 2nd was an entry level Hagstrom which I loved and played until it was stolen.
Swedish Hagstrom basses will outshine just about every mass-produced bass on the planet when it comes to build quality.
As for the sound...it's fairly unique. It won't sound anything like a Mustang. To me - and I had owned one of these for 13 years making it the bass with the longest tenure in my collection ever - their sound is quite "open" and not overly aggressive. Clear lows and highs without sounding sterile.

Yes to the all of the above. I wouldn't use it for a Level 42 tribute band, though...
Pair it with a nice vintage amp and you may just step into a time machine...
One thing to note: I'm a rounds player and never tried flats on that bass. I suppose that you could get close to Andy Fraser sound using flats and playing a bit with pickup balance. To me that's as "classic rock" as it gets when a short scale bass is concerned.

I had one for a few years, they are nice basses. I mostly used round wounds and to me it had a broad and even tone, dare I say somewhat brighter than you'd expect - at least mine was. I had some Rotosound flats on it briefly and those were not the right strings for it. I liked some of the small details like the 'H' truss rod design and the oblong side markers.
