HAH! Funny, but unfortunate!

And Im sure youre aware that that is not the point I was making at all...

Psychological harm from being cheated on is minimal.
Psychological harm from having to live with an unwanted permanent scar is much higher, IMO.

I have to disagree here.

IMHO, getting it on with someone else while you are in a marriage or otherwise serious relationship is about the worst thing you can do to someone. No one is perfect, and I try to always be the understanding guy in any given situation. But it takes a whole lot of nerve and a whole lot of action in the evil category to find yourself alone with someone, disrobe, get physically aroused, and put your member into the body of another (or vice versa). It's something I never could comprehend doing to another.

My first girlfriend cheated on me when I was 14. It still hurts pretty bad, and still ticks me off something fierce some 13 years later. My senior year in HS, girlfriend cheated me with a mutual acquaintance. Still hurts, and I feel the urge to kick her square in the nuuyatz the few times I've seen her since. People have been killed due to infidelity. Empires have fallen due to infidelity.

Now me personally, I'd rather (much rather) have the unwanted tattoo than to have my woman cheat on me, and especially with my best friend.

I agree with you this far, two wrongs are two wrongs. And eye for an eye means two blind men fight. But psychological harm from being cheated on isn't minimal. Au contraire, it's quite maximal. Quite maximal indeed...

Those people are weak, mentally, to not be able to move on from being cheated on. In my opinion.

So are the people who can't get over a tattoo... but that is just reality.

Like bullying - some folks can handle it, and others can't.

I have to call BS, in this situation. Yes, being cheated on sucks, but if that is worse to someone than being permanently scarred, Id say that person needs a better sense of self.

This presumes that emotional scaring can't be permanent.

...and I think it would be very dependent on the situation.

Short term girlfriend cheating with random stranger is quite different than wife of 20 years cheating with your father, etc.

Nor is it something I could do to another, but I think the act involves a whole lot less evil than you imply.

All because one persons Ego was so incredibly hurt by the actions of another. Im sorry you were hurt, but how long ago was that? Youve got to move on, my friend. Relationships rarely amount to anything at 14 years old, and not too much more 3 years later. Was your ego so bruised you were unable to move on? Your married now, how do your exes cheating on you in the past factor into your life now? Aside from the bruised ego? Ive been cheated on as well. Yeah, I was hurt at the time but Ive gotten over it. Theres something about forgiving others in there as well.

To you :smug:

I think in this (hypothetical) instance it should be taken into consideration that these two were not married. Maybe Im just a lot more zen, but Id find it a lot easier to dump and move on from a cheating girlfriend than to live the rest of my life with even, say, a small tattoo that I did not want.

I guess this is all opinions at this point...but this kind of thing takes a whole lot of "I will do what I want, with a big F U to the harm that it causes you," in a situation that could be very easily avoided by ending the relationship before deciding that you want to go screw other people. Purposely going out of your way to harm another person, especially a supposed loved one, in that manner, is the opposite of love and the epitome of evil. IMHO

To your other point...por mio, it's not so much ego. I have a way of looking for the good in everybody. I really, really like to appreciate something about everyone. A lot of that is just my makeup, and a lot of that (I believe) has to do with the fact that growing up, my mom constantly took in crazy people that rode her bus to try to help them to their feet. So I've spent most of my life listening to people's stories and the difficulties they have had with the curveballs that have been thrown their way. That is why you will typically find me taking on the majority in one of these "witch hunt" threads.

But this kind of stuff....(and I will backtrack a little bit, there are specific circumstances, of course where I feel differently about the action taken) I just find incredulous. I can't find the good in the person. I can't see where it's understandable. It is one of the cruel things that people are capable of that really, really gets me down on humanity. Whether it happens to me, or anyone else

I'm not an expert by any means, but wouldn't a tattoo of this size take many hours to complete? I smell . . . something.
