Halftime show wish list ;-)

I've seen a lot of grumpy reactions to Sunday's halftime show. A hundred dancers and a singer on a platform flying 200 feet in the air? Yawn. :meh:

So, I'd love to hear what people would *like* to see. I'll start. ;)
A reunion of the Kingston Trio.
An unplugged set by Sha Na Na.
The sixth grade orchestra of Millard Fillmore Middle School in Peoria, Illinois performing Barber's "Adagio for Strings."

I liked it. Ri was great and the dancers were really cool. The platforms were spooky high. I enjoyed it.

Also FWIW the Nielsen viewership actually increased during the halftime which means that even though it was already over 113 million, millions more tuned in to see the show.

I hear a lot of kinda dumb comments like it should be some old man rock band with real bass player and guitar solos. But that would definitely not elevate the viewership. It’s entertainment. It’s not a recital. Y’all don’t be so goofy.

All kidding aside, I completely agree with you.

Although I had heard of Rihanna but never heard any of her songs I thought the show was a nice bit of choreography and generally entertaining though it does not send me racing to Spotify to hear more (it all sounded like the same song about butts and money to me). But I offer no criticism as I have accepted that I am no longer the target audience for today's commercial music, much less a Super Bowl halftime show. But I did enjoy the spectacle.

However, I am hoping the days of wheeling out the aged, shattered remnants of once popular Classic Rock bands to lip sync a medley of 50+ year-old-past-hits is over as Rock just isn't where it's at for the industry today.
I'd love to see them try to appease and offend everyone all at once and have bands from different genres play a bit, but not together. Do a Pop thing at one end, then cut to a County thing, then back to a Rock thing then maybe a Rap or other genre thing.

Or do a totally international thing representing artists and music from around the world. The NFL keeps trying to appeal more broadly anyway.

Whatever they do, reaction will be the same as it always is.

NFL is a business. It’s an entertainment product.
The fact that around 7 million additional viewers tuned in to see the halftime show above and beyond the 113 million already watching the game tells you they nailed it.
The commercial value of TV is related to the number of viewers. That’s why they have Nielsen ratings in the first place. This halftime was the 2nd highest rated all time, 3rd most watched Tv broadcast all time.
“Pop” means popular.

That was a terrible lip-syc performance by Rhianna.

How about The U.S. Army Concert Band? Or the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors?

Or at least a group of humans actually performing live?

Why does it always have to be some mega pop-star?

To get the most viewers possible and sell the most ads for the most money they can. I know several people who tuned in just for Rihanna and never watch any football at all.
