Halftime show wish list ;-)

That was a terrible lip-syc performance by Rhianna.

How about The U.S. Army Concert Band? Or the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors?

Or at least a group of humans actually performing live?

Why does it always have to be some mega pop-star?

“Pop” is short for the word popular. I’m

I had the opportunity to see the Marine Drum and Bugle Corp perform. While it was an incredible show live. I’m not so sure it would translate to TV. TV requires more visual stimuli, and the dynamic of a live band (And trust me, it’s a very dynamic band) would be lost due processing the signal for television.

I liked it. Ri was great and the dancers were really cool. The platforms were spooky high. I enjoyed it.

Also FWIW the Nielsen viewership actually increased during the halftime which means that even though it was already over 113 million, millions more tuned in to see the show.

I hear a lot of kinda dumb comments like it should be some old man rock band with real bass player and guitar solos. But that would definitely not elevate the viewership. It’s entertainment. It’s not a recital. Y’all don’t be so goofy.
How 'bout you don't badmouth other peoples preferences?

NFL is a business. It’s an entertainment product.
The fact that around 7 million additional viewers tuned in to see the halftime show above and beyond the 113 million already watching the game tells you they nailed it.
The commercial value of TV is related to the number of viewers. That’s why they have Nielsen ratings in the first place. This halftime was the 2nd highest rated all time, 3rd most watched Tv broadcast all time.
“Pop” means popular.
100% agree, but pop doesn't always mean quality. In fact, I would say it seldom does.

Because 120 million television viewers wouldn’t amend their schedule to watch the army band play. There’s a difference between good musicians playing a recital and global superstar entertainers performing a spectacle. I don’t see why a handful of bass players struggle with this. The point of Super Bowl halftime is to up the ante on entertainment to maximize viewership for sponsors.
The point of the Army Jazz Ambassadors is to provide enlightenment and to encourage musicians to enlist.

FWIW I have their UNT concert, April 4, on my calendar. I think they’re great. And UNT is a top public university Jazz program, there are always quality surprises at their campus events.
But that’s a different thing than the entertainment event of the year.

That’s the trick. It’s not supposed to. Nobody on stage at the Super Bowl halftime spectacle is trying to audition for MJQ. They’re trying to attract eyes. You can mute the tele and play Sherrill Milnes and there’s nothing wrong with that in my opinion.
People acting like it’s the Met.

half-time seems to be a circus, maybe something cirque du soleil?

A big single-name artist "production number" like in the good old days of variety TV.
With Bob Mackie gowns, big hair, lasers, yeah.

Let's look at who's still alive?

We got:
Cher
Madonna
Adele
Santana
Beyonce
Lizzo
